Fuck technology companies. Fuck every asshole company lying to customers that fucked up apps and useless websites and features that block me using the services I pay for and yet do abso-fucking-lutely nothing to protect me, my account, or stop theft, and poorly trained dumbasses pretending to be tech support, are somehow for the customer's benefit. Which I am pretty damn sure is every company or business with a website or app. I swear to fuck if real phone service wasn't impossible to buy ...

Thomas Friedman has really been indispensable in thinking clearly about Israel’s best options. “Targeted use of force with limited, achievable goals may serve Israel’s long-term security and prosperity more than an open-ended war to eradicate Hamas.” (Free link) https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/29/opinion/israel-hamas-ceasefire.html?unlocked_article_code=1.60w.PLub.laYe7kYF-7Ur&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

It's wild and wonderful how much context can change the meaning in common phrases. It's scary and sad how people can use to mislead and be misled by common phrases repeated with context removed.

Just wondering ... Is that, Hammas made Israel hurt Hammas, or Israel made Hammas hurt Israel?

And how could, you made me hurt you, apply to the noncombatant civilians & children on either side?

Can anybody please help me find a web browser app for my phone which will not fucking autozoom? Fucking ever? Because I can't find one, and I can't cope with spending 10 minutes doing a thing on a website, then the god damned browser decides to autozoom, my well aimed tapped lands where intended, but the fucking item I meant to tap has moved, and now my tap fucked up the page and I lost all progress.

Holy fucking damn dude, the worse the pain, the harder it is to be grateful instead of hateful.

missladyartemis,

@paul @Vivaldi

I'm an android. Well, really Villa Linux whatever, but I can run android apps. The browsers I have tried don't have the zoom turn off option. I am giddy to try Vivaldi :)

Thank you thank you so much!!

By proposing legislation aimed at canceling student debt burdens nationwide, Senator Warren can help alleviate financial hardships faced by millions of Americans. This action would not only provide immediate relief to struggling students and graduates but also contribute to a more equitable society and foster economic growth for all. #DoGoodToday #petition #studentdebtcrisis #congress

I think I get why people are so angry. My favourite time sink is listening to strangers "complain" (& poking at whys). I was so angry for so much of my life. I'm still angry momentarilly like every single hour of the day (it's way hard not to be). But I'm not sustainably angry anymore, and holy wow is the world a different place.

Anger is exhausting, & if that's all it's gaining you, it's a waste. Like any emotion, it's a clue, information, possibly motivation, & too easy to slip into harmful.

Hey Mastodon users!

Tell me something you love about who you are or how you behave, please?

Pretty please with whipped cream and cherries?

The lack of a useful post privacy option is still my pick for the dumbest fucking thing about this site.

missladyartemis,

@misc

What do you mean? I can post privately to only my followers, to only the person(s) addressed in the post, or I can post public posts. Am I missing private post options I don't even know I would love?

missladyartemis,

@misc

Ooh, right, I never thought of that!!

I thought about turning on approval for followers, but I can't be bothered.

I wonder how that would work, posts that only certain ppl can see, but without naming those people in the post. Maybe, a white list, or a favourites list?

Do you have this ability elsewhere, like Facebook or something? I don't do those things, so I have no idea. How does it work in practice?

@juergen_hubert

I just learned I can "add you" to my homescreen on my phone. Like, a link to your "profile & posts" or whatever we want to call it.

Every so often I forget everything awesome on Mastodon, come back & stumble upon your posts again, and can't believe I forgot your story posts and somehow stopped checking for new ones.

Now, hopefully, I'll see the link and not lose you from my life so often :p

If you had to choose one email provider for the rest of your life, who would it be?

missladyartemis,

@NBCactus

My other is paprikash.com
I think? I think that's my provider. My email ends with, @paprikash.com. It's a private ... uh ... not publically available thing. I know a dude.

Better late than never, I hope!

And the best ever chicken paprikash recipe is found at http://www.paprikash.com/ It includes a fudgecicle. Check it out :)

The 15 minute rule is this idea that when you have the urge to use, do something to distract yourself for 15 minutes. That can get you over the hump, and often the 15 minute distraction turns into half an hour of cleaning your room, or an hour of playing your game - just, longer than only 15 minutes. Repeat as needed.

The 10 second rule is the idea that you can tolerate anything for only 10 seconds, so just get through this 10 seconds, then this 10 seconds, then this 10 seconds ...

@HistoPol @RickiTarr @Strandjunker

Look at that voter turn out percentage. More than 80% of Germans were making the effort to fullfill their civic duty to vote.

I keep hearing, there are more of us than them. Our side must really suck at civic duty.

missladyartemis,

@HistoPol @RickiTarr @Strandjunker

So, the German turn out that year was 88.x% (I keep forgetting the exact number in the 2 seconds it takes to close the wiki page and open a mastodon post)

I was curious, so I looked it up, and found an article about a record high turn out last presidential election. Our US record high turn out? 66.8%
