After years of wishing something like this existed, I decided to finally buckle down and make it myself. Behold, an animated explanation of what group_by() |> summarize() does in {dplyr} in #rstats!

More coming later with group_by(cat2), plus group_by(cat1, cat2) and ungroup()!

@andrew These are great! One thing students find confusing in my experience is that group_by() doesn't actually arrange anything. So I think something like this might be good too? So the rows don't move around in the group_by() step.

While I obviously love collaborating with my open source friends and mentors from the US and Canada...there are limits.

@nic_crane I'm sorry what? You have Lego in your house not Legos?

If I knew, I would tell my son "sorry honey we already have one Lego here, can't get more" while we were living in Scotland. Could have saved a bunch of $$$.

I'm with you on "maths" though, makes no sense to go from mathematics -> math.

I am completely failingto replicate in quarto something I liked from xaringan+xaringanExtra. I want to show a directory tree and highlight one of the lines whilst showing some additional text. I don't seem to be able to retain the monospace, properly indented for all the text and change one part of it.

What I have in quarto: directory tree with some explanatory text for the top line of the directory tree. I'd like that top line to be highlighted

@3mma Interesting. I believe if there is an R cell detected Quarto defaults to knitr and Python or Julia to Jupyter. If none of these cells exist in the document, you need to explicitly tell Quarto which one to use. Perhaps that was part of the issue.

@3mma ♥️ glad that worked!

Bringing some super limited edition #tidymodels hex stickers with me to #positconf2023. Check out my talk Tuesday the 19th at 2:40 in Ballroom CD to find out what’s up with the T. rex and LEGO bricks.

@ryantimpe How can I reserve one for my kiddo who is obsessed with both and is also learning to type and make bar plots while building https://mine-cetinkaya-rundel.github.io/dinosaurs?

Shoutout to @minecr for putting together a great session (and website!), and to @quarto_pub for basically being the answer to all my #rstats and #python prayers!

I have been having a hard time getting into the habit of checking here. New habits are difficult to develop... So yesterday I

  • followed a bunch more people to populate my timeline better
  • set my browser startup page to my feed here

It's already helped!

minecr,
@minecr@fosstodon.org avatar

And now I just figured out how to make this page not dark. I don't enjoy reading in dark mode during the day (and in light mode at night). I'm guessing this will help too...

@rmflight @grrrck Thank you both!

As someone with a young child at home, I will not be using the word “toot” no matter how much I get used to Mastodon, it means something entirely different in our house.
