I'm thinking, for a change, of not buying a local SIM (or eSIM) for my upcoming trip to Switzerland. It's only ten days, so if I use data sparingly and stick only to wifi on some days, I should be able to use my Australian number on Telstra's $10/day international roaming day pass, and not spend much more than a new SIM. Hmmm worth a try I think.

@timrichards I'm on telstra prepaid and will be using an international roaming pack for the couple of weeks of our next trip. $25 for 4GB, 50mins calls and 50 texts, with a 14 day expiry. I'm not a big data user, will download maps beforehand, and will use wi-fi as much as possible so this will be plenty for me.

@timrichards I think our ideas of 'use data sparingly' differ ๐Ÿ˜

Interesting idea. At least it's more palatable than SBS On Demand with its clunky ad breaks.

I watched only ABC iview for a week. Hereโ€™s what I loved and hated.

@timrichards we watch a lot of SBS OnDemand and very little iView. Am using a Pi-hole to remove most ads from OnDemand, making it a much better viewing experience.

@alexkidman not enough wow factor, plus the so-so camera, means that it's a no from me.

@alexkidman the only reason I never considered the A54 was the single sim. Is the A55 dual sim?

@thurrott why can't I see comments on articles? Is that now a premium only feature?

@thurrott thanks for replying Paul. Your advice had me doing some quick checks and the blockage for me is something in my Pi-hole at home. I'll need to dig a bit deeper to pinpoint exactly what's going on but I now have somewhere to start. Thanks again.

This was a pain overseas this year. Next time I'll try an eSIM, I think.

@timrichards with our bank we can option to receive 2FA codes within the app. It means only needing a data connection which can be through a local sim or over WiFi.

@alexkidman think this is my new replacement option for my aging (had it 3.5yrs) Huawei P30. Similar size and good camera, but will miss a zoom lens. The P30 is still going strong but I'm always evaluating what's available so I can make a quick purchase if needed.
