I've talked about starting my journey with before. When I was a kid, I loved imagining my own little stories in existing franchises. I didn't re-enact stories as much as I made up my own, within the confines of a world I already knew and loved.

@turbohermit I found level design to be very hard, even though I was much the same way as a kid. I think not having the existing confines of a known world made it hard to start, since the structure wasn't there to build off of. Also, as a kid, you may not think about the technical aspects of level design... what makes a level fun or even work.

Is anyone else also on spring break next week and interested in doing a little game jam? Trying to gauge interest on here and tumblr lol

It would be from March 4th -- March 8th and participants would be free to either start on a new project or work on an existing one, with the goal being to produce a little demo to share with each other at the end.

@segfaulteddreams Coincidentally, I need to either publish a mobile app or close my Google developer account by the 8th. I lost interest in mobile development a long time ago, but maybe I should throw something together to keep the account alive in case I want to publish something larger later.

Now that I have my Steam page for Idosra up, I've been thinking about the next step in my marketing campaign. I've seen a lot of advice encouraging offering a demo, which given the way I structured asset loading, shouldn't be too difficult to do.

What I'm less sure about is Steam NextFest. I have about a week and a half to decide whether or not to sign up for the June 2024 event.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice about this event. I'm still a few months away from release.

Here is one of the last boss encounters in Idosra (but not the final boss).

If you've done all the side quests leading up to this point, Marika will have so much mana that she can effectively fly using the airjump skill. Getting all the recovery and defense skills means she can also absorb hits like a tank. The level still has a few curve balls to throw at the player, though!

@eccentricstylist I found ChaoticShiny to be extremely helpful. It can generate all kinds of names, helpful for not getting stuck on trivial details.

Revisiting an old level... the cliff ascension is one of the first the player will encounter. I originally made it to give new players a chance to practice climbing ledges, but I've now gone back and used it to build the player character's backstory up a bit.

The dialog sequence that unlocks this level isn't shown, but you can probably guess how it goes.

@musicvsartstuff made the perfect background music for this kind of level.
