Fans of #Bats ! Please share your favourite bat facts 🦇 CC: @loren @futurebird can you please boost for wider reach? 🙏🏽 I wanna see people going batshit over bats.

@toridas_ @loren @futurebird There's a type of bat called the Madagascar sucker-footed bat that has disk-like feet for sticking to very smooth palm leaves (despite the name, it doesn't actually use suction to adhere to the leaves). Interesting enough, but also at least as of last report in 2013, no female specimens have ever been identified!

Rewatched Into the Spider-Verse to celebrate my mom getting her first new TV in over two decades. The amount of detail in that movie—in the visuals, in the writing—is incredible. Now I want to rewatch Across the Spider-Verse, and can't wait for Beyond

Every time I've had to log into something through google for like the last month or so there's been this weird banner threatening that google is preparing to make their login page worse. It's so funny. I wonder if they've got a KPI for how much dread they fill their users with.

@aeva Better that than changing it out of nowhere?

One of my favorite conventions, Go Play NW, is trying to crowdfund through BackerKit this year to a) cover costs and b) lower ticket prices. However, they can't even launch their campaign until enough people sign up to be notified about the campaign. Please consider signing up. **This does not obligate you to back the campaign once it launches. **

Go Play NW, July 26 to 28 in Seattle https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/4922f978-0957-44b9-979d-5d8d5f406277/landing

I seriously need to audit/organize my ebook collection, especially ttrpgs and comics. Is calibre still the most workable digital library software? Is there anything better for keeping a nice-looking catalog these days? (especially self-hosted if possible)

I'm so tired of teenagers being "the chosen ones" in fiction. please, let a middle-aged woman save the universe! she's seen some shit and dealt with it. she's tired of it all. she doesn't give a fuck. she's angry. she will get this shit done.

Portland has so many empty storefronts and little spots that it's easy to daydream about opening your own place, but at the same time beloved PDX institutions are closing in droves. It's such a shame

I don't suppose anyone on here is especially good at mongodb aggregations, and willing to lend a hand?

konahart,
@konahart@dice.camp avatar

ok so first off I know I'm making this way more relational than makes sense for a document model, but I'm using mongodb for Reasons

Problem statement:

I have collections foo, bar, and baz:

foo documents look like:

_id: ObjectId("foo")
bars: [
 { name: "blah",
 "id": ObjectId("bar")
 }, ...]

bar documents look like:

_id: ObjectId("bar")
bazes: [ ObjectId("baz"), ...]

baz objects look like:

_id: ObjectId("baz")
some_data: whatever
konahart,
@konahart@dice.camp avatar

I want to put together the fully flattened form, e.g.,

_id: ObjectId("foo")
bars: [
 { name: "blah",
 "id": ObjectId("bar")
 bazes: [
 {id: ObjectId("baz"),
 some_data: whatever
 }]
 }, ...]

so far I've figured out that $lookup will let me retrieve data by matching a local and foreign key, but the part I can't figure out is how to nest it

konahart,
@konahart@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek oh, you can trust that much googling, stack overflowing, and mongodb dev community-ing has been done 😆 I think I've got it figured out, and having solved it, it comes down to: it's not actually worth it to assumble the data into a nested format.

Getting excited for Go Play NW in Seattle in July! It will be my first in-person convention since 2019! I'm confident we can keep each other safe and healthy, and I'm looking forward to seeing the community again 💜

Anyone else planning to be there? Who can I look forward to meeting in person?

konahart,

@rivetgeek Yay, awesome! Hope to see you there!
