I don't think i have this many messages, or my email hoarding problem is worse than i thought.

@marczak Mail was messing with me above. IRL as of a few years ago i unsubscribe to almost all email notifications and started treating my inbox as a todo list, and it’s usually less than 20 now, currently at 6, sometimes even 0.

it’s a matter of some conjecture as to whether i should still have this, but it was fun to find. i really used to look forward to getting these packs.

@LemmyWorld LW looks great, but the sign up experience is very frustrating, fwiw.

anyone have a good reference to the history of the Mac character palette and how and why symbols were chosen the way they were? I have a bunch of books on Mac history, but none go into this. There are many mysteries and odd decisions in there.

Physical swift package updated to v0.6.

Main new features: full decibel and temperature algebras, which I believe to be unique in its support; and greater vectorized array support. https://github.com/hyperjeff/Physical

Ping me if you have questions or need help using it.

Sim fun: I was reading an article about students writing simulations in Vpython to gain an intuition for the physics. I wanted to produce code as succinct using the Swift Physical package, so wrote up some glue code to work with SceneKit. The article had code for an example, so here is a rough comparison. I found a CHECK written to Chipolte in 1999 (cleaning day). We ordered our food, got to the counter and wrote out a CHECK. We BROUGHT A CHECKBOOK to Chipolte.

@marczak it was most certainly not. i found several. one for only $6. many for other places too. i guess i forgot how common this was.

how is it that some apps launch at login, but they’re not listed in login items? very annoying.

in my bookmark file from 1995: 20 companies / apps still exist with the same url (even apple!), 8 gov / nasa sites, and 6 old school webpages (incl. Zen and the Art of the Internet, Sprott’s Fractal Gallery, and The Netlib) — out of 127 links. 27% ain’t bad for 28 years later.

i’m trying to help make Mastodon a good example of a social medium. to that end, i will try to contribute original content here and only here, and studiously avoid posting items from other social media. (web links are fair game though.)

otherwise it becomes just another dumping ground. posting screenshots of other social media is particularly lame. mastodon has a chance at avoiding this because of how unmonetizable it is. i’m hoping this keeps all “influencers” away too.
