All those cars and solar panels that Chinese companies counted on selling in the US must go somewhere. Every other country in the world (excluding the EU, although to a lesser extent than the US) isn’t hell-bent on sanctioning China, their production will be just redirected elsewhere.

And since the US, biggest net importer in the world, just stopped… importing, there will be more goods sought after by less money, AKA more supply (old supply + goods that can’t profitably be sold in the US anymore) but less demand (since the US just passed these new tariffs) and as you know, this is gonna make prices fall, maybe not a drastic fall but still.

Plus (AFAIK) because of the shitty electoral system in the US, it’s really hard to even get on the ballots. So it’s not even like people who want actual change can vote somebody like West or PSL (Forgot the name of their candidate) because in half of the states they’re not even on the ballot. Since I’m tankie-adjacent (meaningless term, more lore in the original post) and had to do with the affair I’ll just voice my opinion: I’ve seen many good people coming from that instance, both on hexbear and outside hexbear, some of them even comrades. Punishing them for the actions of their mod team seems a bit too much to me. The offenders have (rightfully) been banned from this instance, and on the rare occasion a wandering lib will post on here we can all PPB them, I’ll join too.

Also, semi-related but I love how just by shitposting on a piracy community I caused an inter-instance diplomatic crisis and had 2 (PoS) admins banned, lol wasn’t my intention but I’m glad they showed their true self, so to say.

Edit: also remaining federated while having the admins banned is such a power move lol, “hate da gubmyent not da paypoohl” but for real this time

I interact with I don’t even know how many instances, I couldn’t be bothered to make an account for every one of them honestly. If one of them would defederate from mine, I would just stop interacting. I guess it’s the same for the well-meaning users on there too, it’s way easier to have a single account to interact with (almost) any instance. And people are generally lazy, too.

Federation is one of the biggest advantages of lemmy and ActivityPub software IMO. Instances shouldn’t defederate on a whim (considering the admins, who were the libs in this case, have been banned)

BTW my main point was that the vast majority of people interacting from db0 are well-meaning and not brainwormed libs (funnily enough the worst offenders were the admins) I don’t think we should discourage them from participating on hexbear just because their admins are assholes.

But I mean, the real MVP was the comrade who posted abt it on the dunk tank, it’s only thanks to that post if the 2 admins showed up and emabarsssd themselves, giving us first the massive argument chains and then the DM spam, and after that they got what they deserved.
