iPhone email app (the built-in one) is really bad.

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@sorg that too.

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@natejung I use Apple Mail app. I have been force-feeding it upon myself for a long time, hoping Apple would fix it. It has a ton of issues with not sending an email and then my email disappears so I have to type it again, refusing to sync with servers, and some minor issues that are bearable but add-up to overal experience.

I have Outlook app as backup, but that one can’t do some things that I want it to be able to do. At this point I am considering not using email on the phone…

Is anyone playing with NPU's for local ... stuff? I can't call it programming, that feels wrong.

So what do you think of this toy made for RaspberryPi5? It's an AI accelerator that's about 4x slower than AMD Ryzen NPU's, but as usual with RPi it's an affordable starting point if you wish to fool-around with local AI models.

I think I will order one.

@sirber 55 British Pounds bundled with Pi5 PCIe M.2 hat, ribbon cable, header, screws and what not.

@penguingeek TBH your reply sounds like ChatGPT wrote it 😃

@solarisfire I have a 6000-series Radeon in my PC. But this module helps you to recognize stuff while only using one or two watts. Why use a 300W GPU, eh?

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@solarisfire I was joking on full wattage, but I understand what you meant. However, 6800XT has no NPU of any sorts, I believe. Maybe my next Ryzen CPU will have an NPU.

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@JaxxAI they are mentioning even llama3 on their website so I imagine it’s doable. I would actually want to find some language model which can help me with programming, but locally if possible.

@solarisfire ah, I see. Maybe desktop APU’s will get it, but OK I will upgrade my GPU some day for sure. Right now there is no need, it’s plenty fast for my games.

I have been shuffling through many Mastodon clients for iPhone for a long time and finally settled on @IceCubesApp since last year. It best suits my needs. But this post is not an app advertisement; it’s about something else. is a free and open-source app, and that alone is enough to consider paying for it. But the fact that it is excellent means that you actually should pay for it.

I will explain this post in my Wednesday YouTube video, so stay tuned. :drake_like:

@dimillian appologies if I am out of line. Are you paying for OpenAI in order for us to have free AI finctionality in IceCubes?

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@dimillian is there a way to use iPhone's local NPU for such functionality? Just curious.

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@dimillian Thanks. I subbed. I have been using your app for half a year and it's awesome. I hope you have animated emoji somewhere on the roadmap, that's the only thing I truly miss.

just two weeks ago Elon Musk told users to post their family photos on X instead of on Instagram, which he compared to a strip club

now:

@MattBinder I would not recommend posting family photos anywhere on the Internet.

Not sure how do you call this yearly car health check-up in English? You know when your car gets a licence to be driven for the next 12 months.

Anyway, I love how these still use Windows XP. :icon_mario_pixel:

darth,

@dragmine149 car mot, yes. I didn’t know English word for it. Thanks!

darth,

@sorg thanks for the word! :drake_like: And yes, that leak is very bad.

darth,
@darth@silversword.online avatar

@radio_alergy I was being sarcastic to a degree. I think they should switch to something supported, preferably Linux if you ask me.

Although this may be an intriguing read: https://n1info.hr/english/news/leaked-data-of-owners-of-registered-vehicles-in-croatia-not-a-classic-hacker-attack/

@penguingeek I can’t trigger such a bug, but there are many opinions that Linux desktop apps should come from containers in the future. So I think software makers should start making sure that their apps work properly in Flatpak, Snap and even AppImage where appropriate.

A feature I'm exploring for @IceCubesApp
Pin people at the top of your timeline (like Instagram stories, etc..), and whenever you refresh your timeline, you can tap on their pictures to see their most recent posts in your timeline context. You can also see their posts only, for example.
Interested?

@dimillian @IceCubesApp I remain hopeful to get animated server emoji some day :ablobcatheart:
