cyanotype, to random

Today in 'Shitty Art-world Gatekeepers Treating Artists Shittily' news...

Wondering what happened to some applications that took days and days to put together, I find that @arselectronica who run an EU Digital Deal residency are not even bothering to notify losers! Only winners contacted.

No feedback was bad enough. Now, not even a courtesy 'no thank you'.

Shame on you, Ars Electronica.

Shame on all you gatekeepers who think it's fine to treat people this way.

cyanotype, to origami

I've been interviewed about my background, process, cyanotypes, origami, memory and more.

You can watch it here (18 mins):

(Disclosure: Subcultours facilitate artist workshops, and invited me to join them)

I hate being in front of the camera, so this is a rare occurrence. And... is there anyone out there who likes the sound of their own voice?

cyanotype,

If you don't have 18 minutes, there is also a one-minute video of ten questions.

I was supposed to give quick, spontaneous answers, which my brain fails to provide, so all the "err"s and thinking time has thankfully been edited out.

cyanotype, to origami

Tomoko Fuse is my favourite origami artist. The person whose work most inspires me to fold paper.

This short (4m30s) film is about her 'infinite origami' series.

cyanotype,

@NatureMC Those are some beautiful works. Great choices, and thank you for sharing.

You might be interested in (or maybe already know) Alice Fox.

She has an allotment, and uses the plants that grow there - often what are normally termed weeds, such as dandelions, bindweed, brambles - to make textiles, from which she sculpts things.

Alice is lovely. I was lucky enough to work with her on a project in the Yorkshire Dales.

cyanotype,

@joel Yes, how he got such character into pieces of paper was extraordinary.

For anyone who's not seen it, here's Eric in the origami documentary "Between the folds"

The whole thing is so watchable!

cyanotype, to origami

Sometimes you make things for sheer curiosity.

I've been trying tessellated origami forms for a while. This one is appealing as it is easy to fold and fun to play with.

I folded it from a sheet of watercolour paper coated with cyanotype.

It went outside for a day or so.

When developed, it looked like the final picture.

So now I know. Curiosity sated. Until next time.

A sheet of grey paper folded into an origami tessellation which is linked squares. it is resting on a window box with plants, and is the same sheet from the first picture
A sheet of white paper which has been coloured mostly blue. it has been creased into many small squares, some with diagonal creases. there is much variety within the squares as to the amount of blue or white they contain.
