I am not sure that I like what I've become - I have started using #emacs. It feels ... dirty.

Dear how do I create an instance of a dataclass with only some of the values specified? I can't seem to find a way to specify attribute names in the constructor, must I always just provide values in the order that they are specified in the class definition?

Dear lazyweb, I struggle with Postman for testing APIs (for various reasons, not least the cloud bias) and see that there are a huge range of newer alternatives, any suggestions for a simple, straightforward, non-cloud app for testing REST APIs? #postman #rest #api

Noooo, what madness is this??

andy47,
@andy47@aus.social avatar

@pamelafox I'm probably the 300th person to mention this but I found this guide very useful - https://realpython.com/python-coding-setup-windows/

Also, it's 2024 and #Python dev tooling, packaging and dependency management is still frustrating, confusing and downright broken.

@glyph have you considered the church of nix-darwin?

With all the dropbox kerfuffle this week (so you don’t mind if we share your private docs with other companies without asking do you? Kthxbye!), has anyone used https://www.sync.com ? Decent pricing, decent independent review ( https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/synccom-review ).

andy47,
@andy47@aus.social avatar

@mkennedy I've been using a combination of Nextcloud and/or Syncthing (for different groups of files) for nearly 10 years and would never go back to a hosted service. Syncthing is the simplest, but go Nextcloud (or similar) if you want a definitive server copy of your files. But sharing between machines that you own? Syncthing every time.

FYI it's now official: #Firefox development will soon be moving to a #Git repository, replacing the #Mercurial one that's been in use since 2006

@gabrielesvelto it puzzles me why teams replace a perfectly functional tool with something that’s … worse.

@andy47@aus.social avatar

@gabrielesvelto agreed. It’s still a shame though.

I'm trying out the new ChatGPT iOS feature with my AirPods where you can talk to it and it talks back to you

It is SO science fiction - I feel like I'm in Person of Interest, or that amazing recent show Mrs. Davis about the nun who fights the global AI

@andy47@aus.social avatar

@simon best show of the year. I absolutely love it. I think I will be re-watching it soon because I think the second viewing could be even better.

Have you seen the new Machine Explorer feature in our VS Code extension? Check out this demo to see how you can seamlessly edit remote files on any node in your tailnet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASZm_HyrHIc

@tailscale mind blown, love this feature #tailscale

@sethmlarson I'm planning to use urllib3 for a live demo, just want to double check this is the best way to pretty print JSON responses?

import json
print(json.dumps(resp.json(), indent=4))

I looked through ref and didnt see anything built in for it.

@pythonbynight @pamelafox I wasn’t aware of this but wow, thanks for tooting this. I’m just off to add this to every #Python script I have.
