@atpfm Apple just announced the thinnest iPad ever made and my iPad just cracked from being slightly bent in my bag. My last iPad died the same way. I’m not rough with them at all - my MacBook Air was in the same bag both times.

AskATP: Does anyone sell a rugged iPad case that adds rigidity? Silicone/etc is effectively zero protection. I’m thinking carbon fibre would be best.

Chargers and Ports Designed by Committees Generally Suck, EV Edition

@daringfireball If a MacBook can be charged with USB and MagSafe, then a car can also have two charging options (I'm weird, I prefer USB).

All the current EV chargers are terrible.

First I don't want to touch the filthy supercharger cable - I'd rather have my own cable in the car, which I will keep clean.

Second it should be a "hook" not a plug. Simply hang it over the electrical contacts and gravity holds it in place - with a standard NFC credit card in the hook to pay.

This is PCalc running as a native Apple Vision Pro app (rather than running the existing iPadOS app as before).

@jamesthomson Maybe it's time to add voice input to PCalc?

@daringfireball The cool thing about federated social networks is if an instance admin makes a decision you don't like, you can just find someone you do like who runs exactly the same software/service - but with better policies.

Given time, it'll become obvious what the "right" policy is and most networks will be aligned.

I'd be annoyed if the instance I'm on right now made the "wrong" decision, but it wouldn't be catastrophic the way those decisions might be on Twitter or Reddit. I can leave.
