NVIDIA officially doesn't suck on Linux anymore, the drivers are still proprietary but at least they work https://9to5linux.com/nvidia-555-beta-linux-graphics-driver-released-with-explicit-sync-support

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux nvidia?? doing something for linux to make it not suck even with propriatery drivers is rare thing to see, but thanks nvidia, next thing we need to see is nvidia opensourcing their drivers (high cope but we can dream)

The saga of GNOME DRM Leasing is fun
> ACK let's implement it
> No we're not implementing we never agreed to do so
> Valve should come up with something better
> Lets implement a portal
> Lets not
> Lets implement a Dbus service
> Lets not
> Lets implement the protocol actually

I told you I'm not crazy and there is a giant stuttering problem with Plasma desktop effects like alt tab and window overview, along with the tiling editor locking up the entire desktop, I'm talking with @acidiclight and he's diagnosing the exact same issue on his end, this was never a problem with the Arch Linux package lol

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux @acidiclight Weird never encountered these atall... I mostly have issue with dolphin crash when i drag and drop in folders... for like month or 2
Arch, intel and nvidia (intel integrated is using for display nvidia just to pass to games)

My house mates are great at making sure the doors are locked before they go to bed but I walked in at 1am and every single fucking light in the house is on.

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux People tend to take care of most important stuff and then forget a less lets say risky stuff in this situation like lights even if it might be part of their routine, happens to everyone sometimes.

Give me your most controversial Linux takes that nobody wants to admit are actually true.

I'll start, Photoshop isn't actually a big deal for most people and it being missing is easier to complain about than fixing the real issues on the desktop

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux We were so busy thinking if we could that we didnt stop to ask if we should and is it needed. But the fact your rice cooker has AI label is pretty funny you can literally see its just for buzzwording since even they know it makes no sense and probably has no "AI"

Hit me with your worst Linux takes, I'm sure you've all got some bangers.

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux linux from scratch is not from scratch since you arent writing kernel yourself, also arch and gentoo are only acceptable distros everything else is a government sponsored injection.

My favorite windows feature is that there are so many ads that bloggers can write articles about the 7 worst ways Windows tries to show you ads

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux "10 features to disable and stop windows spying on you" yea no if i have to opt out from spying i would rather keep using linux, if i get forced to use windows like tomorrow for example i would actually have so much rage using it, primarily because its not what im used to and not something i can comfortably use.

BrodieOnLinux, to random
@BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online avatar

Windows users seem to have 2 states of being:

  1. Windows is the only useful operating system, I don't like or dislike it, I just use it

  2. Why does Microsoft keep making Windows worse, why do we keep seeing more and more ads

Is there anybody that actually likes Windows

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux I dont think anyone truely likes it, but more that people pretend to like it with excuses of "its what everyone uses", "it just works" etc... and besides your average joe does not care all he wants is system that lets him do his basic stuff and open "industry grade" software such as adobe. On top all this 98% of people are born with MS/apple ecosystem aka preinstalled on most machines users buy, combine this with possibly university requirements etc...

I love looking at code that was even just from a few weeks ago and thinking that I'm a fucking moron and have no idea why I wrote it like that

Remember when we were all naive and innocent and using Linux was fun

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Its fun if you go for gentoo or linux from scratch (tho i still dont plan to use either of these i am still not that insane)

BrodieOnLinux, to random
@BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online avatar

For the record, if I hated KDE Plasma I would have already quit using it. I think it's a great evironment with 25+ years of rough edges and legacy baggage to iron out. Ignorning problems with it only does a disservice to yourself and other users

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux I can not understand people who are purposely going to ignore obvious issues in whatever that thing with issues is, for example if DE has a problem say its a problem as you wrote here, addressing and stating a problem can and mostly will lead to it being fixed for whatever thing has the problem, criticizing something you use and pointing its problems is a good thing not the scream of "I HATE IT". people just get too defensive sometimes since they like the thing as is.

We are very close to explicit sync being resolved, we are literally a few months if not weeks away from the majority of Nvidia issues being resolved on Wayland (then we can focus on all the other issues)

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Nice to see wayland improving even more, especially on nvidia side.

GNOME is obviously the biggest Linux desktop but I wonder how much of that is due to it being the default.

I wonder if KDE or GNOME would be bigger if Fedora and Ubuntu offered their KDE versions with as much ease as the GNOME versions

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Personally i bet on KDE because its literally windows like UI no matter how much KDE team does want to deny it the fact stands that its high likely that good chunk of windows users coming to linux will feel familiar with KDE more then gnome, even with all KDE's strange and weird stuff KDE has that we can agree arent that good like those virtual desktop switching stuff

Update as this sitation is evolving very quickly, Lasse Collin (the original XZ maintainer) is aware of the backdoor and will begin work soon to clean up the project.

Jia Tan has also committed to the kernel in the past so now they're also scrambling to analyze some code.

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Oh must be hell for kernel maintainers to go thru all that patches to find if he committed anything bad, but they are all extremely capable so nothing to worry about.

I've had 2 people now think that if you have per monitor virtual workspaces and a window that spans multiple monitors then if you change the workspace on one of the monitors it would cut the window in half. That's not at all how this has ever worked

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux How?? No shame towards less knowledgeable but seriously how??? this would be a killer troll thing to do and send to people who worship windows/mac and that still think linux on desktop is like in 2000s and say to them "yea linux sucks i need to fix my window cutting off when i switch virtual desktop"

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux Cant blame them for it i dont think stuff like hyprland are used by average like linux users so yeaa gnome and plasma are for sure dominant and both dont have per screen virtual desktops (im not if i am correct for gnome but i would expect they dont its gnome...)

How many hacking movies would be over before they started if the admin just enabled usb authorization

TukanDev,
@TukanDev@linuxrocks.online avatar

@BrodieOnLinux The scenes would just fallback to hackers sending encrypted nuclear launch code packets by sticking usb into ethernet port and somehow the target pc would understand how to decrypt and give access to mainframe.
