Basically my mindset, we should normalize being kind to each other

I’m getting back into Cassette Beasts and still am playing my comfort game, NFS Hot Pursuit 2

Honestly I’m very much a hermit plus I play the game very heavily modded, so I’m indifferent about the update if not worried it might break my mods lol

I think it’s absolutely amazing and I don’t regret spending money on it at all! Maybe it might be worth seeing if it’ll go on sale when the update releases just in case, but if not then I think it’s worth a full-price buy imo.

I remember reading about Rosemary before, it’s really messed-up what happened to her

I can try to help. Are you using Linux or Windows? (I admittedly don’t have much experience using git on Windows)

Assuming you use Linux: usually, what I do is create a folder in my Documents directory specifically for handling Git projects (mostly because I like being organized), then open a terminal window there (right-click and press “Open Terminal Here”) or CD to its directory (for example, if it’s in home/<your username>/Documents/Git, run cd ~/Documents/Git).

Then, go to the github page, click the green Code button, and copy the URL there, which you will use to pull its git repository. Normally, you would then do git clone <git URL>, but the instructions say this uses submodules, so you should instead use git clone --recursive-submodules https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp.git. Don’t bother making a specific folder for this project because git automatically does that.

Then, go inside the folder containing the cloned git repository, make a folder inside it for containing the compiled build of the project (name it, say, “build”), move inside said folder, and then run cmake … (you may have to install this package first depending on if your distribution includes it or not) and then cmake --build. I think it then should be done.

My /var/tmp folder is endlessly stacking up on "container_images_storage_xxxxxxxxxx" folders? (slrpnk.net)

The issue at hand: My /var/tmp folder is stacking up on literary hundreds of folders called “container_images_storage_xxxxxxxxxx”, where the x’s present a random number. Each folder contains the following files called 1, 2 and 3 as seen in thumbnail. Each folder seems to increase in size too, as the lowest I can see is the...

Does all this also apply to distrobox? I don’t use podman, but I do use distrobox, which I think is a front-end for it, but I don’t know if the commands listed here would be the same.

You joke, but a particular fetish I’m into’s community has a really bad fascist/nazism problem, and I noticed that a lot of said fascists/nazis are, surprisingly enough, the bottoms/submissives in it. .-.

I played with my PS2 quite a lot when I was young, particularly because it had a much better version of a game I grew up with (NFS Hot Pursuit 2); it then introduced me to other games I quite liked, such as Test Drive Unlimited.

It sadly broke sometime around early 2018 because I didn’t take good care of it. Now I emulate it but still wish my console worked.

How does Bazzite differ from Kinoite? I use the latter but have been hearing about the former for a while now, and was curious what exactly sets it apart from what I use and what benefits I’d have switching to it.

Cops are gutless cowards who can only punch down on people who can’t fight back; as soon as they meet someone who poses even a slight threat they cower away.

ehhh, unfortunately I’ve met more than my fair share of people who unironically like Stalin.

Lots of actually good communist figures out there and they go out of their way to choose the homophobic drunk domestic abuser who kept a literal child rapist as his right-hand man.

I get what you mean. I used Vista from sometime around 2011-2013, and even though it was slow, I always thought it was really beautiful and still have fond memories of it.

I agree, I never really liked Metro and the minimalism of Material design doesn’t vibe with me either. It’s mostly a personal taste thing though, I know several others who do like minimalism.

About it being weird to be nostalgic for Windows 7, it’s not to me, but I think it has to do with how it was the last OS I used that didn’t involve either several awful bugs to the point of unusability (Windows 10) or requiring extensive knowledge of how the system works (Linux) to daily-drive it; so I guess I look at it fondly as the last time I was “computer-innocent”, so to say.

I have had a LOT of issues, but they’re mostly of the papercut variety - and most of them have to do with Plasma 6 rather than Fedora 40 itself (at least I think so).

I think my CPU is running hotter on 40 than it was on 39, though.

I just hope the Citra forks won’t be targeted. Citra was only killed as collateral damage, but I still can’t help but be nervous anyway…

I’ll never forget Scatman John due to how prevalent his songs were on SM64 bloopers from the old days of Youtube.

If my memory serves me right (it usually doesn’t lol), it was mostly by 2015 that they were on their death throes, having been mostly usurped by the MLG era; I remember being upset that things like advice animals and rage comics were suddenly considered “things only clueless old people on facebook post nowadays” circa 2015. But they were still around in a smaller scale around 2014, so I think it still counts?

But I’m looking forward to seeing you share more old memes! I love 'em.

SimplyTadpole,
@SimplyTadpole@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Well, memes sometimes last longer than the era they starred in.

I remember finding this chart showing the various meme eras (I don’t remember where I found it, sadly):

https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/pictrs/image/05b8d622-98c9-4218-b7d9-36bd1c7d0f5a.png

And I definitely remember seeing old memes still being used after their debut “era” - I remember seeing some from the “experimental” era (1995-2004) like the Dancing Banana, All Your Base Are Belong to Us and less-commonly YTMND and Homestar Runner references in the Classic Era (2004-2009), and likewise I saw memes from that era (Pingas, demotivational posters, Leeroy Jenkins jokes/references, Chuck Norris, Over 9000, Keyboard Cat, etc) still being used well into 2012-2013 despite that already being a new “meme era”.

And as I mentioned in another comment, Rage Comics and Advice Animals still persisted into 2014 (mostly dying/fading into obscurity around 2015), by which point “dank” memes were already at full swing; and I definitely recall still seeing some Surreal Memes in use around the early 2020s, so I’d say the boundaries of meme popularity are fairly fuzzy.
