For Europeans wanting to remove their data from , wouldn't a GDPR deletion request do the trick? I wish we had real data privacy laws in my country.

I remember someone posting awhile back about a extension that collected feeds as you browsed, but I can't seem to find it anymore in the mastodon search or in Firefox's extension search. Anyone know of such an extension?

Another / newbie question:
When the cursor is on a post in one of the timelines is there a way to quickly open/expand the post's thread in another buffer window instead of expanding the thread in the current buffer window?

My current strategy is to duplicate the current timeline buffer window using C-x 2 then switching to the second window using C-x o then pressing the thread command T. Is there a better way to speed that up with less commands? Maybe a macro?

#emacs is such a rabbit hole. I spent too much time playing with my Android setup with the #fdroid version and Unexpected Keyboard and it works surprisingly well. I'm going to need to either build myself or use the sourceforge release since fdroid doesn't have gnutls, and likely the termux compatible build as I'll likely need more packages. Eventually I'll try syncing up with my desktop config. I still don't fully understand why the f-droid version is stuck at the Feb build...

I finally finished my initial pack of German made Van Der Hagen safety razors and instead of just buying another pack of one kind I got a huge multipack of many brands. Going to start with a 5 pack of Egyptian made Shark Super Stainless Blades tomorrow. The Van Der Hagens have been pretty great, long lasting (its taken me months to go through a 5 pack), and easy to use, and are easy to find in the midwest. It'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Any gurus able to get mastodon.el running? I was able to add my mastodon-instance-name and my user id as mastodon-active-user to my ~./.emacs file, and opening m-x mastodon generates this in my messages (and I see a ~/.emacs.d/mastdon.plstore file created):

Contacting host: mastodo.neoliber.al:443
Saving file /home/.../.emacs.d/mastodon.plstore...

I get the complaints about streaming and commercial media library cloud services, but self hosted media you own has all the benefits of physical media, without needing all the space or degradation risks of physical media.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vancouver-mapping-change-tables-1.7080153 mapping changing tables is a really neat and valuable idea, but the data would be far better if it was collected in instead of hosting in GMaps. There is even a data element for it https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:changing_table and that wiki page even lists two apps that use the data for easy lookups.

anyone have a working setup with logseq (in orgdown) and playing nice in logseq's folder (orgroam dailies in 'journals', etc)? Currently my vault is a mix of org and md but I'm hoping to at least get the org files recognized while I work on converting the md (or figure out ). I tried playing with org-logseq but even though I'm matching correctly on its grep for the folder and I have title properties I couldn't get it working after a good attempt.

#uspol Not the best use of my time, but I watched the Sen. Britt's GOP response to the SOTU. Here's my summary:

  • She complained about the border issues, but failed to point out her party isn't voting for the bipartisan bill that could really help solve root causes.
  • She mentioned being worried about her daughters not having the same freedoms, yet failed to mention that she and her party are the ones creating most freedom limiting bills. 🧵 1/3

That feeling when you are running a bit late so you rush to your bus stop to find the one bus that services your route passing by your stop several minutes early, and you left your bike at home that day. Oops! Luckily I have other options than a very long hike back, but I wish we weren't in such a chicken/egg problem of ridership/service so my metro could offer more than one a day per direction hit times on more routes (and more routes in general).

I don't understand the massive amount of people caring what happened to a very elite university's top employee, no matter the justifications or ethics of the actions. The proceedings didn't involve a US court, legislative act, a political election, or even a major influencer, so really will have no lasting impact on most people. The people seeming to care a lot mostly aren't working in education, related to her, or previously studied at any elite university. Why the uproar?

I really hate daylight savings time changes. They're such a stupid waste of so much time by so many people for such little gains of questionable worth and so many negative secondary effects. Can we please choose one way or the other? I have a preference but I'd throw that out if we can agree to stop this weird painful 20th century practice.

It was really difficult today to not go on a rant about the significant synchronization costs of a large mandatory in-person meeting without an agenda or evidence of forward planning. Somehow I managed just making this toot.

I've been using https://thenewsintwos.app/ for about two years and its a great no-cost app to add to a language learning toolkit to consume more in your target language. I only use the web version and I don't bother with its language plans, but its by line or word translation reveal in feed is slick. It sources Newser, which is not bad, but it'd be neat to have the functionality built into a feed reader - please let me know if that's already a thing.
