Played RE: 4 and Village on the iPad Pro (M4 3 core) today.

RE:4 - Looks and plays absolutely terribly. Hair and flashlight beams are hilariously low-res. No adjustable settings for graphics, either.

Village - Very impressive performance with lots of levers for adjusting the experience to your liking. I’d play this game on this device (even though I have a PC with a 4070 that would run circles around it).

Both - My poor battery! Holy cow, I didn’t know iPads could get this (very evenly) hot!

Listening to Rec Diffs 104: True Bottom and…

I’m sure you’ve heard this enough, but I can’t help but pause and say, no @siracusa, regardless of how good a programmer you are, you will never convince me that is the correct answer.

The job you were best at was, without a doubt, OS reviewer. There has never been and likely will never be another of your caliber.

Absolutely the GOAT.

Respectfully.

Very hyped to play No Rest for the Wicked later. Early access starts today. Usually not the early access type, but this time I just couldn’t resist.

Cutscenes have significant Arcane vibes, and I’m 100% here for it!

Oh, and it’s made by Moon Studios (Ori). 🤩

I love @things and have been an enthusiastic user for years and years (before Things 3) but I will never stop wanting a checkbox that removes Inbox and sends all new items to Today.

I’ve tried to understand why Inbox exists—and is the only way you can send a new item to Things from Safari with the default share button—but I just don’t get it.

Maybe I’m missing something still. I don’t know.

🤦🏿‍♂️Utah women's basketball was in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a basketball tournament. While walking to dinner, racists in a lifted truck with confederate flags, yell the n-word and other slurs at them, and threaten them by revving the engine by them.

At the press conference, the city did the usual dance: half apologizing, but half doing the "I hope people don't think our town is racist now!" dance. Which is awkward, because another white nationalist showed up to disrupt the press conference.🤡

NateBarham,
@NateBarham@wandering.shop avatar

@mekkaokereke It’s a hate bubble wherein the majority pretend racism doesn’t exist, concentrating the number of people coming in from other places who also think it doesn’t, which increases the number of people who get mad when it does come up, which makes it look ok to be mad about it, and here we are.

All the while, the state increases restrictions on what teachers like me are allowed to discuss on the matter. I’ve been indirectly threatened more than once by parents about it over the years.

I played #BaldursGate3 for a very long time, at least by my own measure, starting all the way back at launch and finally finishing it last weekend.

Unlike other games that I might be able to complete and then walk away from with a quick tweet-length post, I continued thinking about it.

It's a special game, of a kind that only comes around once in a great while. My thoughts:

Heh. Roll credits on Gris, 2.8hrs according to Steam. A nice palate cleanse after nearly 200hrs of BG3.

A beautiful meditation of a game. Funny how broad the medium can be from a many-months-long epic with a hojillion words to a lovely little poem (with no words at all, save menus) finished in less time than the other’s final battle.

Games are cool.

@ismh I do still love the NES-ness of this image.

I think it is possible that Apple has poisoned the Vision™ product well by pricing the first one at $3500.

At first, it didn’t bother me, but I’m seeing so many people being SO negative about it that I think pricing ordinary folks out on round one may make it extremely difficult for people to like or want a reasonably priced version at a later time.

I love the design choice of Threads to hide the # symbol in #tags. It’s really nice to not see posts junked up continuously with a symbol that is mostly unnecessary.

They just color the text differently and it works great.

Now, I would assume there need to be accessibility considerations as well to make sure everyone will know what is a tag and what isn’t. But wow does the Don feel noisy by comparison (on this one factor).

    Weekend project:

Move all notes from Craft to iA Writer with Obsidian as the backend.

    Love:

    • iA Writer for text entry and editing
    • Obsidian’s universal file portability, owning my information
    • Real tagging
    • Paid up front (iA), free (Obsidian)

    Hate:

    • Obsidian’s entire interface (how it works, not just how it looks)
    • Image handling, storage, and organization

Maybe iA Writer 7 will have solutions to some or all of these?

    It’s done!

    Book V of Alora’s Tear

Started in 2018. Stubborn through a hellscape presidency and pandemic. Dragged along the beginnings of a voiceover career. And a tunnel at the end of which I thought I might never see daylight.

The road to publication is still to walk, but today I wrote the last word.

Today, I wrote the last word.

I am so hyped I could cry.

…but I already did that when I wrote the emotional climax yesterday.

I feel like the drawbacks listed here are trivial to Apple and the may in the line about old cables going to a landfill (which without a recycling program from Apple itself will absolutely happen) is doing a lot of work.

I’d say Apple’s biggest problem with changing to USB-C is the brand damage that happens when people cry and complain about having to get new cables, blaming it on “greed” or “money grab” when the new-cables business is a dot for Apple, revenue-wise.

I’m looking for a budget tracking app that allows sharing with a partner. I thought there was one that came through the Apple-sphere recently. Anyone out there know of one?

I obviously can find the big names, but I was hoping for an “indie darling” in the vein of Ivory for Mastodon or Mela for recipes. That sort of thing.

Trying to use Lemmy instead of Reddit has me understanding the problem many people have when going from Twitter to Mastodon.

When you don’t already have a bunch of obvious things to follow (like I did with tech peeps on Mastodon) the place just feels really empty. See Threads’ algorithmic timeline for comparison where yeah, it’s a bit annoying sometimes, but never feels dead.

Arc, the browser that has been the biggest and best change in my desktop computing life in years, is now available to anyone (Mac only for now, with an interesting and useful iOS companion app).

You’ll still need an account to sign up, but it’s worth it. Well worth it.

Look. Logic (and Final Cut) are professional tools software. $49/yr is extremely consumer friendly. Hell, Adobe Audition is $20.99/MONTH, 4x the cost of iPad Logic.

It’s not even the cost of one videogame per year for a tool that could be your primary production platform as a musician or voice actor.

It also lowers the barrier of entry (was $300), and possibly avoids a laptop purchase for some.

If it’s good, the sub is a fantastic deal. If it’s bad, it doesn’t matter what or how they charge.
