"Three months in, and the alternative app stores that have so far launched in Europe are doing little to jeopardize Apple’s monopoly — and you know Cupertino is feeling pretty satisfied about that.”
Translation: Apple's Core Technology Fee and related restrictions have made it impossible to meaningfully compete with the App Store, and thus clearly violate the DMA. If it's not seriously curtailed, fast, Apple's looking at a whopping $40B fine https://mastodon.social/@verge/112569090206157267
@stroughtonsmith Also, there are so many annoyances. Installation of AltStore was very cumbersome (not sure if it still is) and there are many other inconveniences that will stop many non-tech people from succeeding in installing it. They will just give up and stick with the “easy and convenient builtin” AppStore.
Version 6.0 is finally here, meatbags! This major update includes an all-new look, plus cute robot gardeners, a bunch of new layout options, weather news from AccuWeather, a “yesterday’s temperature” popup, iPad/Mac layout improvements, and so much more. https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id961390574
@stroughtonsmith Yea, the Files app is just horrible compared to most other operating systems file managers, combining it with iCloud and its sync issues makes it even worse… 🤦🏼♂️
@geerlingguy@viticci You mean in “non-StageManager” mode, like when doing normal multitasking ?
I do quite like the implementation of Split View and Slide Over. Seems quite intuitive to me, once you’ve gotten used to it. It does have a little learning curve though indeed…

World of Warcraft is doing something it's never done before: it's re-running the Mists of Pandaria expansion as an alternate game mode with a reworked reward system and scaling, stackable, highly-overpowered modifiers. When the event is over, in 95 days, your completed character will be ported over to use in the main game and ready for the latest content. And Dragonriding, the new dynamic flying system, is unlocked from the start so you can zip and swoop around the continent freely. Tons of fun
Forcing myself to use Stage Manager with my new iPad, and I’m really struggling to create a mental model of how to use it. I feel like windows should be added to the current stage by default, but am I just using it wrong?
