The only way that technology can boost the standard of living is if there are economic policies in place to distribute the benefits of technology appropriately. #AI will certainly reduce labor costs and increase profits for corporations, but that is entirely different from improving our standard of living.

@ErikJonker Hmm, this seems to be yet another article mythologizing #ai tech? No one can predict the future. Neither the optimists nor the pessimists. 😀 Therefore, I think we should focus on addressing problems and risks that exist today first and take it from there. That means implementing sensible regulation asap, doing research to create a better understanding etc.

@ErikJonker I think there is less “unpredictability” then we think. 😄 Algorithms are already a mayor part of our everyday lives. And we have already have enough examples of algorithms going terribly wrong. See e.g. the discriminatory algorithm used by the Dutch tax authorities. These algorithms are less complex then #ai-based algorithms. To me it makes more sense fixing the issues we have now first and creating a good basis for further reliance on more complex algorithms.

@ErikJonker I am also wondering if we already have an “enormous amount of users” and “high impact”? I think a lot of people are just giving it a try at the moment. Looking at myself. I am an experienced programmer and experimented a bit with #ai-based code-generation solutions. But, personally, I find these solutions still too unreliable and I am not experiencing a huge boost in efficiency. Perhaps this is different for other users? And ofcourse future solutions might be better.
