We are finally in the process of incorporating the Digital Research Academy and just when we need it least, I get a notice that my office lease will be terminated by end of July...and with that we are losing the headquarters of the DRA.

Munich is a difficult city to find affordable offices, so I am hoping that you can help us.

Looking for

  • Office in Munich, optimally in the west, south, or center.
  • <500€ per month, optimally including internet, heating, and electricity.
  • No furniture needed. I will bring my current stuff.
  • Open space or co-working is not an option as I have many calls and teach online courses.
  • We're happy to sublet and sharing a kitchen and bathroom with others would be a plus.
  • We need the office to be our business address, so a (shared) letter box would be required.

Students and early PhD candidates often don't understand all the talk about #OpenScience. They think Open Science is just "normal" science.

The older researchers are the ones who teach them otherwise. Let's change that!

The idea of having a dedicated venue for , akin to Dagstuhl and Oberwolfach, would be amazing, wouldn't it?

We could use this place to create systemic change, allow exhausted researchers to reboot, run hackathons, summer schools, seminars, workshops, or celebrate our achievements in improving the quality of research... 💭

@mwfc interesting idea. What do you mean with "brand". Do you mean more like a word (such as "hackerspace") or an institution/company (like e.g. "impacthub" for coworking spaces)?

👉 3 simple rues for creating #OpenScience Policies 👈

  1. Develop output policies first and combine them into an Open Science policy later.
  2. Policies are about the "what" and "why". The "how" belongs elsewhere (e.g. guidelines).
  3. Don't start with the policy, start with the guidelines.

I teach not using spaces in file names as good practice, because it is annoying when coding.

But when I create a duplicate file, the standard on IOS is to name it "duplicate-name 2.pdf".

Why? 🤷

@maelle @Drmowinckels omg what a pain! Exactly that is why defaults should never be against good practice. No spaces is such an easy rule, too... 😅 At least I know now that I am not the only one struggling with this :rofl:

Most important learning this year:

I won't always be able to finish everything by the end of the day. It will feel shitty, but it is not the end of the world. It is a necessary evil of the type of work I do. I can be super organized and it will happen anyway.
