Today's tiny computer hell discovery: If you're signing up for Old Navy's customer loyalty program in a store, the little machine rejects any email containing a + character

Freaky,

@mcc Most - it's just a convention and depends on the server configuration.

This is from Lawrence Durrell’s Justine, one of the finest novels of the 20th Century, and I want editor mastodon to take note:

EM DASHES ARE NOT SURROUNDED BY SPACES

thank you that is all

please stop fucking it up

Freaky, (edited )

@thomasfuchs @janl @emilygorcenski I'm switching to something even more wrong ⁻ just to spite you all.

lotta people badmouthing logitech gamepads but they're actually lovely gamepads that work just as well as any xbox controller, just at a fraction of the price. don't blame the poor gamepad for sub man's hubris >_>

Freaky,

@fell @eniko I gave up on them years ago after it became clear they could no longer make a mouse button that lasted longer than a year.

Turns out they run them wildly out of spec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5BhECVlKJA

Freaky,

@fell @eniko It's infuriating isn't it? You can replace the switches with some cheap parts and a bit of soldering but that's not much of an excuse.

I went with Razer because they have their own optical switches. Hopefully they'll prove more reliable.

Freaky,

@eniko @fell Seems so. The switches are rated for tens of millions of actuations, but only if they're driven with over an order of magnitude more power than they get.

I suppose it's good for battery life, and for most users it lasts long enough to get through the warranty period.

Freaky,

@fell @eniko I expect it shares most of the same internals as the wireless model.

Computer just switched off at random, for the second time today. This time, it happened simultaneous with a power flux event (the air conditioner halting).

Maybe I need a UPS. :(

Freaky,

@mcc @ckfinite I see at least two 6+2 splittable connectors in your photo - they have nobbly bits next to 2 pins holding them on.

Youtuber NeverKnowsBest had his 2nd channel removed and appeal denied, and then had his 6 hour long video "The Entire History of Games" which he worked on for many months demonitized for supposed profanity in the video's title. Even though we can all plainly see there is none, his appeal on this was also denied https://youtu.be/FPTXRV1GU4E

Apparently there is just nobody left at the wheel on #youtube, because this is just patently ridiculous. What good is an appeal if the same dumb as bricks AI scans the content again and comes up again with the same false positives? Why isn't there a human who can spend literally 2 seconds verifying there's nothing to this claim?

Freaky,

@eniko @gabrielesvelto Comment from an hour ago: "The History of Games video has just been re-monetized and is back to normal (I guess as a result of making this video)."

I wonder if that's retroactive. Well, no. No I don't. I just jump immediately to "Google are crooks".
