Yes, but your commentary was more entertaining than the event itself!

Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Lead G.I. Joe-Transformers Crossover Movie for Paramount and Hasbro (www.hollywoodreporter.com)

Chris Hemsworth is doubling down on Transformers. The actor is in talks to lead an untitled crossover film for Paramount and Hasbro Entertainment that unites the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed....

The crossover everyone was asking for.

Ah, sorry about that. As it generated headlines at the time, I assumed anyone that cared either saw the movie or caught the news articles - I didn’t care but managed both and you really aren’t missing out by not seeing it.

Why Lucasfilm decided the High Republic is the future of Star Wars (www.polygon.com)

StarStar Wars doesn’t really have a future right now. The franchise itself does — it will keep getting new entries forever if Disney has anything to say about — but the story can’t escape the Skywalkers or imagine a future beyond the franchise’s most-featured family. In fact, most of the recent TV spinoffs, like The...

Yes, there have been a lot of carefully chosen words used. I’ll wait for further details but I wouldn’t be surprised if the plan was still to get the NEC to bar her and any other troublesome candidates from standing with only a couple of days left, so the party get to parachute in their own choice.

Odd to say ‘politicians’ in the headline when what is meant is ‘Conservatives’.

I was thinking the same. Weaponising law enforcement against their opponents is an old Tory strategy.

Really powerful series.

Some of these beliefs, like the imaginary continent of Atlantis, were used by the Nazi party to create a link to a mythical pure race. Indeed, a key component of the Nazi’s rise to power was the promotion of ideas that today would be described as New Age mysticism – a spiritual movement that emphasizes magical experiences and the notion that spiritual forces connect everything in the universe.

Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke’s The Occult Roots of Nazism is good in this regard. One of the key roots being the volkisch movement that saw people getting back to nature but also opened the door to mysticism.

Around here, you’d struggle to find a Tory but Cosmic Scousers are ten a penny and some can believe three strange things before breakfast. Hell, my friend’s business partner is an engineer who believed in the 5G conspiracy and happily jumped on the anti-vax bandwagon.

It doesn’t dig that far back but a line of people running New Religious Movements for fun and profit traces back through Scientology to Cayce and Blavatsky.

I also have a butthole. Not sure where we are going with this.

It seems like a little might be good

Really? I thought exposing the most concealed parts of your body to the merciless rays of the sun seemed a bad idea with no upsides. If you want old Sol to tickle your ringpiece then be my guest (as long as it’s a long way from me) but please slap on some sunblock.

6 Reasons So Many Movies Are Struggling At The Box Office In 2024 (screenrant.com)

With ticket sales down and newly released movies hitting streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) services in record time, it’s not surprising that films are struggling to make it big in theaters. For comparison, 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road grossed a whopping $45 million over a non-holiday opening weekend, which ultimately led to...

Also LOL at all the comments on the article saying it’s because movies are woke.

I suppose Garfield might be woke AF, I haven’t seen it.

One of the comments does mention the strikes and that has caused all sorts of issues. An earlier article on here suggested the film studios were largely writing 2024 off as a bust. All hopes now seem pinned on D&W for doing good money and Joker 2 and Alien: Romulus have potential to do well. I think my top ten of the year is going to look pretty anaemic.

It would depend on your definition of cheating. I assume most couples set limits on acceptable behaviour from full disclosure or don’t-ask-don’t-tell to no naughtiness. On a friend’s stag-do a maid-of-honour #cough asked if I’d snog the hen and I obliged - it’s between hen and her prospective husband as to where they drew the line that night. I am left with a nagging suspicion that it was a bet or a dare to kiss the oddest looking (hopefully not ugliest) bloke in the place.

In the UK the Jack the Rippers have a no touching policy because, I believe, they are subject to strike licensing laws. Overseas, in my limited experience (Prague) restrictions are minimal or nonexistent, so that would have to be taken into account. “What happens in tour…” is seemingly common, unless, apparently, it’s stories about me.

Why Greggs is beating Pret in the battle of the lunch break (www.cityam.com)

There’s an old saying in London – you’re never more than 6ft from a rat and 50m from a Pret a Manger. But the popular high street sandwich chain has struggled in recent years with consumers abandoning ship. With a rising tide of debts, it has now recalled its initial founder, Sinclair Beecham, to the top table in order to...
