Turns out the full version of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX for PS1 is every bit as awkward and unintentionally funny as the demo in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, except I have more levels to be awkward in.

There's severe problems with things appearing in front of things they shouldn't, like my character appearing in front of a bench here and looking like I'm just a little baby man. Also when I grind on things the bike very rarely actually looks like it's making contact with what I'm grinding on.

@NovaSquirrel this reminds me of when I watched a Let's Play of Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX for the PS1, with wild pop-up and it even had ragdoll physics when you wiped out.

@mmasnick No offense, but this is kind of ironic in an article about Twitter - a site owned by a person who is actively sympathizing with the Russian disinformation campaign the article is talking about.

I know that this is a counter-productive question, but I do really sometimes wonder what you actually think should happen in a case like this - when a website is actively and willfully doing social harm. Because that marketplace of ideas is clearly failing.

@Merovius @mmasnick Masnick likes to act like he’s oh-so above it all, but he’s not. He’s just another technolibertarian Internet dudebro with connections that will resort to insults when he can. He called you an idiot on the not-so-secret club that is the Techdirt Insider Discord.

Very scary people fail to understand what "scraping" really means. I often see lots of arguments that would basically mean the death of the entire internet instantly if implemented, all just to try and spite AI that shutting down the internet wouldn't really stop anyway at this point.

They got the models. They got the data.

You can encourage new laws about their use, but there's really no point trying to say "reading things is not fair use".

@SirTapTap Prosecraft wasn't cool or useful. It was some guy saying he cared about authors while making a crappy linguistic model that failed on multiple accounts to do what it said from comments I've seen, and trawled what looks like pirated copies of books, even spoiling them, he was looking into another LLM with tons of books piled into it, and Prosecraft was tied into Benji's app Shaxpir, which is monetized thru a subscription service. He says he cares about authors, but really Benji was lying.

All the hand-wringing from tech enthusiasts like Techdirt and others about how authors killed some "amazing" tool have a massive stank to them.

so if I'm keeping score:

  • twitter previews dont work when posted on discord etc
  • can't click to see the tweet unless you've got an account
  • you get an account and now you can only see 299 more tweets before you have to leave

the only thing left to do now is just hide the site

Ash_Greytree,
@Ash_Greytree@chitter.xyz avatar

@roxy I just logged out of the site on my phone and am prolly never gonna log in again. Tomorrow when I boot up my computer I plan on doing the same. Simply not worth it anymore.

Ash_Greytree,
@Ash_Greytree@chitter.xyz avatar

@roxy I enjoyed Cohost while it lasted and I loved its layout but yea all too often I felt like I was shouting into a void full FOSS people and IT experts who talked about nothing but code and stuff day in/day out.

I think one of the big obstacles to finding communities I'd like is that for a lot of the things I'm passionate about, the communities are going to be like, 95% kids, and that's not an environment I want to be in.

It feels like there's a big lack of communities that are both sfw and adults-only (or where people at the very least act maturely).

@NovaSquirrel yeah, definitely agree. My mobile gacha game of choice is Cookie Run. A while back I went to the official Cookie Run Discord, felt like I was the Oldest Human Being Alive, and left after a day of just browsing through it and maybe making one post. More power to their community, but I wish there was a place for adults to shoot the breeze about the dessert-based running game without feeling weird.
