Just found out several posts of mine have been removed here this morning from the Local and Federated feeds.

I see people posting music, i see tons of shitposts, i see bots and a bunch of posts sometimes spanning long threads here on this instance.

None of my other posts were censored in this way but posting a Russian singer/songwriter i'm fond of resulted in this apparently.

New posts seem to be appearing so i was only targeted for that is seems. Now i know, i can't play any Russian artist here, not allowed.

This is interesting and a bit disconcerting to me anyways.

Something published today re: Meta joining the fediverse with their new project. While everyone here is engaged in heated debates about it all, this is apparently what's happening outside of this ecosystem and why they are wanting to be here:

Some interesting bits from it re: Barcelona / Project92:

"A launch of the new app could come as soon as “the end of the month or beginning of next month, they have been onboarding people for a little while”, he claims."

"Users are likely to be able to transfer over account information from Instagram, including the ability to keep their handle and notify followers to join them.

It should hopefully make it an easier sell for people who have built up large followings on other platforms."

"Zuckerberg, ever an opportunist, has spied an opening to subvert Facebook’s long-time rival. Work began on Meta’s new app in January, mere weeks after Musk finally took over Twitter."

Whether it is WhatsApp or Threads, Zuckerberg’s fight with Musk is unlikely to be straightforward. Ives says the rivals will face a “costly battle for market share as advertising growth remains under pressure”.

So for the past week i've been sharing one image per day on Pixelfed.Social, the dev's instance.

And each day my photo shared has ended up in the top trending photographs for the entire instance.

But today i just posted an image and this happened.

Not sure if his instance is having spam issues today but this is a first. I hope my photo gets shared there, i don't see why it wouldn't after review.

I just had a cool memory i want to share.

Was laying down thinking about random stuff and there is a fan on here. I flashed back on something i've not thought about in a long time.

In kindergarten, late 70s, in my classroom there was this thing, a giant plastic sort of tunnel deal that had i think two box fans at one end from what i can recall.

It had a door that must've been velcro or something and there was a giant cassette tape player with two pairs of huge heavy headphones that were way too big, with the spirally cable and 1/4" jack connector... oldschool style.

There were books and tapes that went along with them. You could go sit in this clear plastic bubble with a friend and listen to audio narration, look at pictures in the book and feel this intense breeze while you just chilled in this whole weird sensory environment as all the other classmates were doing something else.

It was like another world and it was the first time i ever wore headphones. Listening to the fan here just reminded me of this. I kind of legit want one of those in my apt. now. I might have to make one, it was just a cool experience.

This early morning as the sun comes up here in Seattle, i'm going to share one of my favorite albums i'd like to listen to.

The band is Panivalkova from Kyiv, Ukraine and their music is fantastic. They are no longer together as a band but two of the artists are still releasing solo music and the other is doing performance art around the world.

I was able to import this CD before the war began and it means a lot to me. I also love their solo music and they are just fantastic people.

The CD's are out of print but you can support them on Bandcamp if you'd like.

Update: Meta vs Fedi

I had responded here earlier to @MOULE as i had used the info provided to block over 2K Meta owned domains including the new threads one.

Turns out creating a blocked_domains.csv file with all those domains imported only blocked the following:

api.instagram.com

accountscenter.instagram.com

threads.net

I'm unsure why the 2K in the csv didn't merge last night when attempting this to reflect all Meta's domains. I want to let anyone attempting this know that apparently for whatever reason those 3 are the ones that successfully can be blocked at present on a user level.

Perhaps @jerry can shed some light on this since i'm just finding this out.

Birds don't have calendars:

I just spoke with a seagull friend of mine who visits daily across from my window. There are a few that visit me each day for the past 3 years or so, i've gotten pretty good at making seagull sounds (the short low ones, not the high loud ones they are most known for).

Sometimes i interject in English, 'Good morning Seagull!' and then speak in seagull again and they seem to like that, it lets them know i'm a human who also speaks bird.

Today i told the seagull it was Tuesday in case they were wondering, the seagull responded loudly and then we spent a few minutes talking in seagull again before they flew away and i returned to my coffee and browsing the fedi.

I think it's important to check in with our bird friends and occasionally let them know what day of the week it is. I've never seen a calendar for birds and even though they know so much, seeing all of us each day from above, we need to help them when it comes to filling in some of the gaps of things they don't pick up on.

Do your part if you can today, let a bird know it's Tuesday. They can let the others know so no one misses any appointments they have coming up today or later this week.

It has been brought to my attention that my suggesting use of Alt Text and nicely, politely educating people on how to use Hashtags in a way that doesn't wreak havoc on screen readers for those who use/need them to be included here, is something that won't help Mastodon grow.

I just want to point out that my concern isn't Mastodon being Twitter, it's not Mastodon being Facebook, or Instagram, or Reddit.

My concern as a user here and on Pixelfed, in terms of my use of both is to ensure i'm doing whatever i can to make sure everyone is equally included.

I take care to add descriptive alt text to both posts here, as well as on Pixelfed. I'm a visual artist who uses DSLR photography in my art. I value the fact that this platform and Pixelfed allow me to ensure i can add descriptive alt text to things i share.

My grandmother was blind most of my childhood. I think of her every time i add an image here and add alt text.

She bought me first computer in 1983, and told me 'the more you learn about these, the better off you will be later in life' and she was right. I went into tech later in life before becoming disabled.

I am not here to police any of you, you can add alt text or not, you can care about how to best post in order to make it easy for those using screen readers to help them or not.

But please don't tell me my caring about any of this and wanting to include people, as many do on Mastodon and other Fediverse options that i'm wrong for doing it and that i need to not talk about it because that will limit the platform.

If it means people who don't care about others go to Bluesky or somewhere else, so be it. I'm here because many people care about each other. I'm not here because i care about unrestricted growth at the cost of disabled persons not being included.

Thank you for taking a moment to consider my perspective and why i shared my earlier post attempting to be helpful.

Before i begin my evening, browsing and sharing things of interest here on my new migrated profile i need to first take a moment and go and support this instance with a recurring donation.

I'm disabled and on a fixed income but i really do appreciate having this space and this is something i was planning on doing on the last instance but hadn't yet in the 3 days i tried it.

Thank you @jerry for hosting here, i really appreciate it. I've enjoyed your posts and quite a lot of content from your instance thus far.

I'm looking forward to exploring more. :)

It's going to rain here today in Seattle. I love the rain, it smells nice and i like the sound of it.

You can't live here for decades and not have it grow on you. It's just part of life.

I grew up in New England where it was hotter and colder, more extreme and more snow. I prefer the more temperate PNW.

I'm just going to say this to put my two cents and feelings on it out there.

I'm personally not interested in federating with Meta's instances and will block them because i can as a user on Mastodon and that choice is awesome to be able to make.

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of talk about this, i've already been seeing it, some want to federate, some don't, but as a user, being able to simply block them, that to me is my plan.

I'm sure this is all going to be quite a storm though when it happens here and is no longer a leaked mockup of project 92.

I came here to communicate with Pixelfed and Mastodon users. I am just not interested in being part of anything Meta.
