Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're pretty likely to either talk about or respond to if you see them.
This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.
Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.
Miniature war gamers! I'm on the lookout for games with interesting or at least unusual mechanics. Give me your weird activation or initiative procedures, odd unit organization, strange interactions during other player's turns, gonzo movement types, and bonkers harm rules, you name it! #miniatures#wargames#wargaming
Doesn't actually have to be that weird, I'm really trying to build as comprehensive a list of mechanics as I can.
Some outliers that come to mind: Havoc's fluid unit mechanics, Sword & Spear's activation dice, To the Strongest! and Hordes and Things zone movement, Impetus's counter-charges and staggered melee contact, Mayhem's die-code attributes and soft/hard counters, the list goes on...
It was time to give Xenos Rampant a try, with a simple scenario of trying to get a group of teenagers and their dog safely across Xenos infested ruins.
Xenos Rampant is a set of very simple modern/SciFi wargame rules that allow for some very fast playing games. So it didn't take too long to see whether the teenagers managed to get their dog to safety, or whether they became tasty snacks for the hungry Xenos. #wargames#wargaming
RE that last boost of @mr_whateley. It’s something all of us on warhammer.social should be thinking about an maybe a bit uneasy with.
Would be great to get something of a steer from @ianob but to be fair to him, he was pretty clear he hadn’t the time to manage things here, so it’s sorta on us for staying.
Might need to think about what server to move to which I’m sentimentally reluctant about 😂
In other words, one which caters to hobbyists, rather than mandates them. Shit posts, off-topic rambling and pictures of cats are all signs of a healthy online ecosystem, albeit one which is also full of Noise Marines and quality Zoatage.
First game of Nemo’s War on Sailor (easy) difficulty was total chaos and ends in an “Inconsequential” (non-?)victory level with 232 VP. What a blast. Lots of decisions to be made as the dice are cursing your soul. ☠️
There was a quote in a wargame group that got me thinking. Broadly speaking in the non-wargame design world, striving for simplicity is a common goal. Making something useful and clear without any unnecessary elements. Elegance is the Holy Grail.
Does that apply to wargame design or are there enough wargamers who crave chrome that it calls that general design axiom into question?
#Turnip28 is the most interesting game I have yet to play! Should pick up my little project to get some horrible little fodder to a playable state. #wargaming
