I get the impression that many people on the Fediverse like cuteness.
I present to you a baby Sandhill Crane walking along with mom and pops. Let the cuteness begin.

Today's dinosaur: a pair of sandhill cranes screaming at a hawk that had the audacity to land on the lawn 100s of meters away.

Cranes, you're bigger and buffer than the hawk...

4/15 Dinosaur Report - I slept in this morning and didn't get good photos, but the sandhill crane colt is visibly bigger and getting leggier by the day.

Photos by my husband, who didn't sleep in and has a better camera than me.

A sandhill crane feeding its offspring (photo taken by my husband). The adult is bent over and passing something in its long beak to its offspring, which is standing and bending over to accept whatever it is.

After quietly traversing the heavily wooded, brushy area around a small, secluded pond last October, my husband and I saw this rare pair of Sandhill Cranes who utterly charmed us with their calls and antics.

Morning at the Crane Pools
Bosque del Apache NWR, NM

Over two dozen Sandhill Cranes are standing in the icy pool—they spend the night there as protection against predators, such as coyote. Around them are many, many Snow Geese who also spent the night here. Very soon all will take to the sky to head off to forage in the neighboring fields.

All the Sandhills in our neighborhood have congregated across the street. They love the detritus of crops.

A mated pair of beautiful Sandhill Cranes photographed foraging in the grass in a local neighborhood. Such elegant and stately birds, they are easily recognizable with the distinctive crimson red heart on their forehead and the beautiful gray and sometimes rust plumage.

My father-in-law and I spotted this sandhill crane family dining by the side of the road today in Kensington Metropark. Papa crane is keeping a very close eye on me.
