Tasks are the wrong abstraction, https://blog.yoshuawuyts.com/tasks-are-the-wrong-abstraction/.

Another excellent article by @yosh. I still need to digest it; I reckon it contains many (great) ideas I agree with.

Async Rust is a Bad Language by Matt Kline.

Very good intro and thought provoking article on and , and their use in .

It champions 's model of concurrency which takes me back. Back to the time I failed to get funding for a start-up to build an compiler targeting i386. Which was largely a ploy to get the UK government to buy me some neat kit 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, here's the article:

I've put together a little library that tries to focus the user on developing parallel applications in - it's still an experimental project but we've started with a few real applications. It's available here: https://github.com/roburio/miou. The library is very straightforward about what you can do with OCaml 5 and . At the very least, it may look rudimentary but it leaves plenty of room for the user to do what they want to do - while imposing some good practices.

I’m starting a new project to learn about linkers. It’s called ˋweld`, and it lives here https://github.com/Hywan/weld.

I do this on my free time; understand very sporadically.

This toot is a thread to show progress or to ask help.

To be fast, weld needs to link objects concurrently & simultaneously. A few days ago, I’ve implemented a simple ThreadPool type, in the new weld-scheduler crate, https://github.com/Hywan/weld/blob/ea792c808887306acc6985bd71910fc35051a530/crates/scheduler/src/lib.rs.

It’s able to send Futures on various threads where async workers execute them.

It’s done with smol, a light & flexible set of crates to implement custom async runtimes, https://github.com/smol-rs/smol.

Next step: “Linker Strategy” to link things for real!
