I have a strong dislike for clear flight stands, so I do things like this.
This trio of Inceptors all have a handy piece of terrain to keep them at about the right height.
One is hopping a fence with the help of his jet-pack.
Another is landing on a box (and is lucky the box has crushed).
And the last is smashing his way though a wall.
Also of note is that I used 9 different metallic paints on these.
Based around a plaster cast taken from an old Terminator 2 (cast the skin on Arnie) play set.
Now, a hard-fought location on the battlefield of the future.
Even though the statue has fallen, someone has set up a shrine with the head and built barricades.
Those barricades have not held... what has become of the occupant and what is the future of this location?
Lots of details in this piece. Too many to cover in this post.
Converted quite a while ago now.
Added a cloak, steampunk sniper rifle, and a Tyranid-powered auspex scanning device.
And re-posed to rest their foot on a skull.
The contrast between the camo' cloak and bright red armour still amuses me.
Defensive position built up from junk around the ruined corner of a building.
The junk is built up on a wooden frame.
Terrain piece at 28mm (1:56) scale built mostly from household junk, including a CD for the base.
The wooden frame is made from lengths of sprue, lashed with dental floss.
A couple of minor modifications; one is reloading and another is holding his weapon one-handed.
All have grass bases with scorched patches, because they wield plasmaguns.
The colour scheme is also a nod to their use of plasma; A bright yellow, like the plasma of the sun. And the light blue accents, as is typical of plasma weapons.
I also dulled the red of their guns as a bright red was too much with the rest.
This Mantis Warrior was created for a friendly contest on DakkaDakka, with the aim of showing what it means to be a Mantis Warrior.
Making use of many older bits, I re-posed this mini' to be springing from hiding, using a modified boltgun, plus added lots of saboteur elements (like mines and bombs)
The Mantis warrior chapter marking was freehand and I chose to represent their alternate colour scheme on the other shoulder pad.
I wanted to represent them stepping through from the hidden dimension.
For the portal I used some clear plastic, cut into a wibbly shape, so that it is visible but not (like a heat haze).
I also painted half of the mini' dark and half "in light", again, to represent stepping from the hidden dimension. The cut-off matches the position of the "portal".
Painted as a squad made up of members from different chapters.
Their chapter markings have been covered with a grey square and each has been assigned an "element" from "Air", "Earth", "Fire", "Water", and a mysterious "Fifth" element.
Here you see "Water" originally from the Ultramarine chapter.
And the other 4 members of the Element squad of Intercessors.
"Air" originally from the Raven Guard,
"Earth" originally from the Imperial Fists,
"Fire" originally from the Salamanders,
And the "Fifth" element from the Blood Angels.
