Gotta love all the folks in my YT comments acting like making a wearable display is SO easy. Nothing is worth buying until it's like magic star trek tech, that is completely portable, wireless, has micro-batteries, lasts for a week on a charge, and is a fully rendered interactive AR experience.
So the acronym #XR is just #VR, #AR, and other-R tech - the X has no meaning, it's just a placeholder. (In the OpenXR logo, the X is literally made up of an A and V shape). But, some folks call it "Extended Reality" which I have trouble aceepting: it feels like a backronym, really awkward. The beauty of XR was that it was an umbrella term over the other existing "reality" terms. But if I'm gonna lose the "X in XR has no specific meaning" debate... 😉
@WarnerCrocker The weather, the current time, creating reminders, and music requests are all I use Siri for, I think. Anything else is so rare I can't recall them right now.
It's annoyingly slow at times on my original HomePods. The last few days especially so. Resulting in me rebooting them all last night. Which did help.
@ianRobinson I’m about the same in my usage. Actually a bit less. Never used the HomePods so can’t comment on that, but the random failures on iPhone and Watch are plenty and frustrating enough.
Given Valve mentioned the #steamdeck would be a stepping stone to VR and we now have news about #amd z1 extreme chips which are projected to be about 25% slower than a PS5.
It seems like Valve will be in a great position to release a standalone #vr headset with enough performance to drive #pcvr games with lowered settings, which would still look miles better than the games on current standalone headsets.
"But Coomer did light up when I suggested maybe we could see the Steam Deck’s custom APU in a standalone VR headset, like the Oculus Quest. He said he loved the question. “We’re not ready to say anything about it, but it would run well in that environment, with the TDP necessary... it’s very relevant to us and our future plans,” he said."
Just like the mythical (joking) Jaguar VR, the 𝕍𝕚𝕣𝕥𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕪 powered Dynovisor is perfect for playing Missile Command 3D on the /|\ Jag ;-) #Atari#AtariJaguar#retrogaming#vr
#VR-related question: if I have a Meta Quest headset (1 or 2), is there any way to track an external object besides the controllers? Either using extra hardware, or something like ARUCO tags?
