Original box I bought in '81, we had been playing since '79, though I waited to get the upadeted rules. Dice might be original, or might be from Squad Leader.

This is my Sharkey 🙃

You can call me Dane.

I started out on the fediverse arooooound...I wanna say 2017/18 mebbe? My big start in social media was MySpace. Before that, I had a LiveJournal (which I miss mightily with all my heart). My very first computer was a Gateway PC, back when they shipped them to you in those awesome cow spot pattern boxes. I am trying to de-google my life.

I'm and suffer from . I'm currently unmedicated. I can be damned moody at times, so there's your warning.

Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. Not everybody's thing is my thing, and that's cool. Just don't be a wanker towards those whose thing ain't your thing. OM 🕉

I'm 57 years old and have come to the conclusion that we never truly appreciate the decades we grew up in until we hit middle age.

I'm single and childless, hence my user tag: TheLastOfHisName.

And now, a hefty list of hashtags....

Jan 13: Do you like maps? If they feature in your work do you draw them by hand or use an application?

Funny that this question came up on the day I included a map in my latest chapter. It's a map of the Oval (the region where FTL works in Stardust). It's meant to be 3D but it has to be 2D because screens are flat. I made it in paint.net.

See this post for the map itself. WIP of course. https://spacey.space/@maxthefox/111748290737427639

Der erste "richtige" Druck ist abgeschlossen und gut verlaufen. Ich muss aber die Pickel der Supports noch weg machen, ist quasi frisch aus der Härtung.

real-time CT-scale Pluto tourism: turn 1117 - almost 13 days under thrust. We're past the orbit of Neptune, and thus beyond all of the unequivocal planets of the solar system. We're moving at 32.5 scale m/turn, 431x system escape velocity, barely over 1% the speed of light. 46675 game meters from the Sun, with 5465 meters to Pluto. The Sun provides about 100 lux - kind of Earth twilight levels. Pluto is still too dim for the human eye to see,

CT-Scale real-time Pluto tourism: turn 652, 7.5 days under thrust. We're 21487.6 scale meters from the Sun, with 30648.2 scale meters to Pluto remaining, midway between Saturn and Uranus orbits. Velocity is 65.1 scale meters/turn (2.17% c, 576x system escape velocity). We're approaching credible interstellar slowboat speeds. The Sun provides 500 lux lighting.

: Pluto Tourism. I had to rerun the model because, apparently for years now, I had the incorrect GM values for both Pluto and Charon (Pluto is supposed to be about 869.61 km^3 s^-2 and I had about 874, and inverse for Charon. I still had a circular orbit of Charon, so I must have had old GM values somewhere - it's possible I set this (solar system config) up before the New Horizons flyby. Surface acceleration on Pluto should be about 0.614919 m/s^2. Adjust expectations accordingly

CT-scale real-time Pluto Tourism: Turn 474. We've now been under thrust for 5.5 days, and are midway between the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn. Pluto is still an extremely dim +13.9 magnitude star in front of us. We're 11468 scale meters from the Sun which is providing 1756 lux (23 W/m²). Scale velocity is 47.5 m/turn, 1.58% c. Pluto is 40666 scale meters ahead. We're 280 scale meters "below" the Invariable Plane, and Pluto is currently 2160 m below the Invariable Plane.

Pluto Tourism - Turn 351: Attention passengers, we have passed through the ecliptic and invariable planes. We are now "south" of or under the ecliptic. Velocity is 1.176% c. From Earth's sky we appear around 19h12m47s RA, -23º7’ DEC, in the direction of Sagittarius.

CT real-time Pluto tourism evening update, turn 348. We're approaching Jupiter's orbital distance, and are now 6278 scale meters from the Sun. Insolation is down to 77 W/m², illumination about 5852 lux (a bit brighter than an overcast day on Earth). To use a TL7 technical term, we are "hauling ass”, moving at 1.16% lightspeed, 34.96 scale meters/turn, 170x system escape velocity.

real-time Pluto tourism at CT scale, shipboard evening, turn 264. Insolation 220 W/m², 3723 scale meters from the sun, and we’re in the midst of the area of the solar system generally referred to as the astroid belt (Asteroids subsampled 10:1 from the MPC list - about 130k plotted). Ships sensors do occasionally detect asteroids passing (but keep in mind here 3d was collapsed to 2d, sometimes there's considerable z-distance even when plotted nearby)

CT to-scale update. This time, turn 234, I'll plot the path of the ship to-scale for CT traveller gameplay (1mm=100km), presuming the Sun is placed in Brentwood Park, Portland, Oregon. Our ship is now only about 114 scale meters over the ecliptic. Once again, note the gameplay scale - this is hard to fit in the typical living room. Vel=7.8/1000c.

CT real-time Pluto tourism evening note (turn 162): we're now further from the Sun than the Earth at 1517 scale meters, cruising 193 scale meters over the ecliptic (and descending - Pluto is below the ecliptic). We're moving faster than half a percent the speed of light now. We could micro-Jump and would get to Pluto faster, we're outside of any gravity shadow now, but we'll stick to real-space.

Pluto Real-Time tourism, turn 55: ship's lunchtime. The comet is now down to a vmag=1 star. The Sun is still pouring energy into us at 15 kW/m². We are 150 scale meters from the comet, 455 from the Sun, and 51838 from Pluto. Helocentric vel = 9.94 scale m/turn (e=95.0)

real-time Pluto Tourism: Turn 2. We have departed C/2023 P1, and are now en route to Pluto. Passengers will be pleased to notice that we are no longer in free fall. We are currently 19 scale cm from the comet and just over 52 scale kilometers from Pluto. We're 378 scale meters from the surface of the sun, heliocentric velocity is 0.95 m/turn (e=1.607, hyperbolic excess velocity already 46.8 km/sec). The circle in the plot represents 1.5 ls.
