Eine Frage zu ZFS an die Linuxer und ITler unter euch.
Ich habe hier einen ZFS-Pool auf dem ich per BashScript snapshots anlege und die inkrementell per "zfs send -vRI ... | zfs receive -v ..." auf einen BackupPool repliziert werden. Läuft alles und ist schick und schön.
Problem: wenn ich alte Snapshots auf dem HauptPool lösche (Platz freigeben), klappt die nächste inkrementelle Replik nicht mehr.
Fehler: "cannot receive incremental stream: destination MyPool/MyDataSet has been modified".
Kann mir einer von euch einen Tipp geben, was ich falsch mache bzw. wie das lösen kann?
Client (a bit clumsy but positive and honest) calls: "Help! Just came back from lunch break and accidentally deleted all files on the file server!"
Me, unfazed: "Alright, besides you, who else worked on the file server during lunch break?"
Client: "No one, we were all away and I'm the first one back. Others will be back by 15:00"
Me, looking at the clock and noticing it's 14:30: "Okay, what time did you go to lunch?"
Client: "At 13:30. How long will it take to restore from the backup? Do you think we'll be able to work tomorrow?"
Me, without flinching as I type "zfs rollback *dataset-13:45-snapshot": "Done"
Client: "All the files reappeared!"
Me: "Thank #ZFS, #FreeBSD, and whoever set up automatic snapshots every 15 minutes."
Der Verlust von Daten ist meist sehr ärgerlich. Habt ihr schon einmal eine Datei verloren, der ihr heute noch nachtrauert? Oder konnte euch eine Sicherung schon vor einer persönlichen Katastrophe „retten“? Wir sind gespannt auf eure Kommentare!
@bsi Fast ebenso wichtig wie #Sicherungen (#Backups): ein kleiner Vorrat regelmäßiger "#Schnappschüsse" (#snapshots) vom aktuellen Zustand aller Dateien, mit denen Nutzer:innen selbständig eine kleine Zeitreise rückwärts machen können, ohne jemand um "Wiederherstellung" bitten zu müssen.
Es wird häufiger unbeabsichtigt oder leichtsinnig etwas gelöscht, was man eine Woche später dann doch wieder bräuchte.
When deleting data from any snapshot-enabled filesystem, keep in mind that deleting data actually means adding data - if an earlier snapshot of your dataset exists.
