Remember #Servo the experimental #web engine “of the future” that #Mozilla was making?
It’s not dead! In fact, it was re-activated as a #LinuxFoundation project and is being actively developed with the goal in mind to “provide an independent, modular, embeddable web rendering engine, allowing developers to deliver content and applications using web standards. ”
Watch Manuel Rego talk about the reboot of #Servo. He talks about the current state of Servo, it's goals in the near future and how you can contribute:
I understand that this would be a massive undertaking, but would you guys ever be open to considering a re-base of #VivaldiBrowser away from the [Chromium Based] Blink rendering engine & moving over to the #Servo rendering engine?
The people over at @servo seem to be making great strides with it & I feel that having a team that are actively developing a web browser to help them would be a massive support for them.
Given what I've seen, my trust is in @Vivaldi to do it properly & respectfully.
I just tried #Servo (the browser engine) again and I swear it's WORSE than it was before. No SVG support I think, and now neither CSS Grid nor Flex work! On loading my website, it also complained about "this.applyShadow" not being a function but it's never called because I never wrote it so I don't know where that's coming from.
more fun with #webxr in #servo on windows. you would not believe (well, maybe some of you would) how long it took me to get this screenshot without something breaking or freezing. not to mention there was a weird issue I had to work around where A-Frame's default text shader just didn't work, so I had to use aframe-troika-text instead
