Hi all. Hoping there are some #blind#linux users out there that can help me out. I'm using an old computer, not the one I mentioned in my previous posts, but a different one, and #Orca isn't speaking. I originally installed #Ubuntu Mate, but Orca was freezing a lot, so I switched my #DesktopEnvironment to #KDEPlasma. It seemed like a lot of things were inaccessible, though, so I decided to try #Gnome. I installed Gnome, chose GDM as the display manager, and restarted the computer. Now, Orca works on the login screen but nowhere else. It seems to be running, and when I run "orca --replace" in the terminal, I get an error about something only working with X11. I've been able to tell that by scanning the screen with #SeeingAI on my #iPhone. I need to get Orca up and running again so I can use my computer. What's the best way to do this, preferably without sighted help, as my mom and stepdad aren't good with #technology. #accessibility#tech@mastoblind@main
When I met my father in-law during Christmas of 2008, I had a #Nokia with BeyoCBS which was I guess the much cheaper version of NKFB Reader. At the time, I showed him how (air-quotes) 'Easy' it was for a blind person to read stuff. He handed me a bottle of wine and it took me perhaps three goes before I got anything meaningful out of it. Every year or two I try to find something else to show him. This year with the introduction of #BeMyAI and Seeing AI doing what it does, will be interesting. Though he's not very tech-savvy himself, he's always curious to see how I do what I do as the years progress, and this year I think will likely blow his mind. I thought reading anything on a phone in 2008 was great, but it's not a patch on how fast and also much more accurate, things can be these days.
@FreakyFwoof after #seeingAI acted like a pile of bollocks, i got #bemyAI to tell me the best before dates on packs of eggs, same camera position, everything. what the fuck is going on with ]#seeingAI.
Discover this fascinating tool from #Microsoft: #SeeingAI! Designed for visually impaired individuals, this mobile app reads text aloud, interprets facial expressions, and provides product details from barcodes, among other features. Has anyone given it a try?
Much expected announcement! New app added to the Accessible Apps directory by Editorial Staff: Seeing AI. Accessible. Seeing AI is a free app that narrates the world around you. Designed with and for the blind and low vision community. https://accessibleandroid.com/app/seeing-ai/#Android#App#AI#SeeingAI
Testing #SeeingAI on #Android. This is not a walkthrough or tutorial, just a very quick, very dirty demo. No more than that, so speech is at the usual speed I have it, etc.
Alice was on the London Eye today, as one of her school friend’s decided to have their birthday party on it, and she took this picture which I ran through #SeeingAI and #BeMyAI because I really like both descriptions, so one of them has been included in the alt-text, and the other is threaded as it wouldn’t fit within the character limit. I think they bring something unique to the table in each case.
On the way home from #Westfield shopping center with my kids yesterday, we sat on the top-deck of the bus right at the front. I thought I’d take a picture out of the front window and compare the difference in information between #SeeingAI and #BeMyEyes.
Both descriptions can be found in the #AltText, as they’re too long to fit here.
I’ll be curious to know which you prefer (if any?)
Just red a new credit cards entire card number, expiration date, and security number using Seeing AI! I don’t know why I’m impressed, but I’m highly impressed! Was getting ready to use #AIRA but thought i’de try #SeeingAI first. #Win.
