While it's not quite the start of the weekend yet, I've lost way to much time by being sick these past couple of weeks, so I wanted to get a head start this time.

So what better way to do this than with a new magazine release.

GamesMaster 79 - March 1999 (UK) has just been added to the magazine catalogue.

This issue can be downloaded here:
https://www.outofprintarchive.com/catalogue/GamesMaster.html

Enjoy! 😙

As I'm now thinking about some of my favourite Playstation 3 games, I wanted to do a shoutout to Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.

This is Capcom's take on Omega Force's Musou (Warriors) games.

Even more over the top and somewhat more of an action game, even if you're not into the whole Musou thing, I still recommend to check this one out.
It is also on the Wii btw.

Absolutely brilliant series that rarely left Japan, sadly.

Somehow my mind is having a ridiculously hard time making sense of the fact that the PS3 is nearly 20 years old. 💀
NES? Sure!
Sega Saturn? No problem!
I can easily and gladly place them in their own time zone.
But 20 years for the PS3. Yeah, this one kinda breaks me. 😱

@UncannyKyle
Ah man, that really sucks.
It's one of those things that really worries me with all the old consoles that I have and still play.

Been very lucky so far, although I lost a Dreamcast due to a faulty laser, but I was able to get a replacement part at least.

@OutofPrintArchive I’m hoping as the community develops we get more things like open-source replacement motherboards and FPGAs powerful enough to go beyond PSX. Original hardware is great but eventually those parts are gonna be gone.

@OutofPrintArchive Best Ridge Racer. I will be taking no questions.

In that case, I won't be arguing. 😝

Review for Vandal Hearts on PSone from CVG 187 - June 1997 (UK)

I have to add that I feel this score is way too low.
This one is an easy 4/5 at the very least and personally, I wouldn't be against giving it a 5.

This takes me back. I had a demo disc of this game and remember playing it over and over just for the soundtrack and this opening clip. #GhostInTheShell #PlayStation #PSOne

@whoisryosuke I'm usually a very stubborn open-standards-only person. The "I had an 'MP3-stick' that also supported Ogg Vorbis because I only had those" kind. The "No binary blobs in my OS and BIOS" kind. But, I admit, secretly, MiniDisc still makes me smile very fondly. So damn neat. Such a shame it arrived late to the scene and was hampered by Sony doing everything in their power to hamstring it's killer feature, perfect copies, by not making proper computer drives for it and only its craptacular NetMD software...

I was about to switch from Extra to Essentials when my subscription comes to an end next month. Just to see if I really "need" it.

But seeing VR games in there makes me think about switching to Premium instead. 🤔

I wonder if they add more in the future.

If this is true, this might be #XBox's #Sega moment. #PlayStation has won, and there's no sugarcoating it.

@khalidabuhakmeh I can’t keep up. Was always a PC gamer. Got an Xbox360 and was happy with it. Got a PS4 later on. Absolute trash. Had to reboot it every time I wanted to access the store. Sucked up all the dust it could find. 1 year later it is a noisy potato and warranty laughs in my face.

I’ll stick with PC. This console business is not client friendly. #SteamDeck for me for the next many years. Sony and Microsoft can do their thing. I’m happier with Linux

khalidabuhakmeh,
@khalidabuhakmeh@mastodon.social avatar

@eldamir I mean the XBox 360 is a classic console. Probably top 3 of all time.

I have added a new chapter on Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic rotations to our module.

Since the yaw, pitch, and roll sequence of rotations of our ship is always based on the last rotation (respecting the pilot's view), it was important to explain the math for both cases.

Intrinsic rotation

Ongion,
@Ongion@mendeddrum.org avatar

@pikuma I think this may have accidentally used the wrong gif? It looks to be the same as Intrinsic Rotation...

pikuma,
@pikuma@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Ongion Good eye. This one is actually correct. The intrinsic one was posted incorrectly. Thanks! :)

Review for Point Blank on PSone from GamesMaster 70 - July 1998 (UK)

Another one of those insanely fun multiplayer games on the PSone.
The system was full of underrated gems like this that didn't get much mainstream coverage.

I actually played a ton of different golf games on different systems. Strangely fun. Never played this one, but it has Mario Golf vibes. I like those kinds of vibes.

I lost interest in most sports games over the years, despite playing tons of Basketball and Hockey games back in the 90's.

But somehow Golf has remained one of my favourite games, despite never even wanting to watch a real match. 😅

The original Everybody's Golf is by Camelot, the makers of the Shining Series for Sega and did indeed move on to Mario Golf and Tennis:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camelot_Software_Planning

From the second game onward, the series was developed by Clap Hanz.
