Dear #photographers & visual #artists running #Linux, what are your tricks for #colour -accurate #scanning photo prints on consumer-grade gear (not a film/drum scanner)?

I have 3+ #scanners, all with wildly different #color results, as you can see below. At least 2 of them can scan directly over LAN (in Simple Scan).

Ideally I'd want #colormanagement / calibration of scans, ideally with "Simple Scan" (otherwise, how do you do it with XSane?). I have a ColorMunki spectrophotometer, if it helps.

I am not in any shape or form a UI/UX/designer type person, mainly because I have zero talent when it comes to creating attractive visual imagery.

But I do have to create a lot of diagrams in the course of my work, and I frequently use colour to distinguish between otherwise similar items which behave in different ways.

I have just been reminded by a colleague that not everyone has the ability to see the full range of colours.

If your work (or hobby) involves using colour to distinguish between things, especially if that distinction is important, do try to remember that fact. This linked web page is really, really helpful when it comes to choosing a fully accessible colour palette.

The human eyes have "only" 3 different colour receptors, so multiple spectra can be perceived as the same colour.
(And this without considering all the ways the signal is processed before you actually "see" it.)

On the left, the absorption spectra of the 3 human colour receptors, with a varying spectrum (shown as a black line) on top. On the right a disk coloured with the RGB equivalent of that spectrum.

“The Skye Bridge (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid an Eilein Sgitheanaich) is a road bridge over Loch Alsh, Scotland, connecting the Isle of Skye to the island of Eilean Bàn. The name is also used for the whole Skye Crossing, which further connects Eilean Bàn to the mainland across the Carrich Viaduct. The crossing forms part of the A87.”

This was my view from the bridge as I passed over it last evening on my way home.

#AutumLeaves A familiar sight this #autumn in Alsace: #leaves turning colour due to #drought damage, fungi or insect bites. True autumn colour, on the other hand, remains still rare: the trigger of cold nights is missing. Can you find out which of the photos is shot in autumn and which in summer? More in the alt text! Gondolas have existed since the C11th. They are always black. This is in consequence of one of the many sumptuary laws of Venice, forbidding showiness. Until the C20th, they used to have a sort of cabin amidships, with shutters that could be lowered for privacy. These were the original 'venetian blinds'. Apparently, there are only about 400 gondolas still in Venice, but it feels like more...

This picture is in square format.

I am not colourblind, for which I am extremely grateful, so I don't understand. But the reaction of people seeing colour for the first time always gets me in the feels. Their overwhelming emotion.

[Looks like this turned out to be my 3,000th post on Mastodon. I'm really beginning to feel at home here now. 😁]

I went to see a beautiful garden yesterday, on the western edge of Dartmoor... and here it is!

Lovely flowers for your #SilentSunday contemplation...
