Rappel qu'à une époque pas si lointaine on voulait fumer cette ordure De Villepin avec au moins autant de rage qu'on a pour Macron ou Darmanin aujourd'hui.

    @GossiTheDog Yeah, this shit is bad, as pulled the same crap and even canceled thousands if not millions of old "basic landline" contracts of seniors that paid their €20-ish + x in advance per month.

    Also for no explicable reason those didn't get any good replacement option i.e. a battery-buffered "Fixed Wireless Terminal" that is essentially a mobile phone but instead of regular buttons it's sized like a [ / & has a connection for a regular landline phone to use with.

    hey, in a debate with @thecatcollective

    over parents being delusional,

    can you list any open source software that has become the industry standard, so far i got

    • obs- video-streaming
    • android
    • Linux and BSD on servers
    • both chrome and firefox are
      based on open source
    kkarhan,
    @kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

    @animemer @thecatcollective also the Backends of all big enterprises, espechally #GAFAMs run basically exlcusovely on #FLOSS and maybe some inhoise tools they didn't publish at all.

    lamp, to RaspberryPi

    oh, I had gotten an idea for a great project: A network status display.

    For people with monthly data limits it's useful to know how much data has been used, so a little display showing stats from the gateway router would be a great idea. It could also show graphs and other cool things.

    Obviously it is not really possible to add this functionality directly to the router and such routers don't really exist, so a raspberry pi would be needed to get information from the router via whatever APIs it has.

    Of course, if the raspberry pi itself is the router, this is a lot more straightforward.

    Or you could get a R2, and have a gateway router with wifi, GPIO for LCD display, web server, and NAS storage all in one! Pretty epic!

    @kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

    @lamp OFC that board is a good option in lieu of bad #CPE|s and rarely good options for a lot of people...

    That being said a lot of good #Router OSes allow logstashing and thus dashboarding with something like #Grafana...

    But I do think that a reconfigureable status dashboard - whether it's a physical display or website in LAN [propably both would be done the same way] - would be cool...

    Basically like a modern Version of the #Chumby...

    i wish you to never ever interact with telco companies about non-standard inquiries…

    😑

    kkarhan,
    @kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

    @IAmFox And I guess regulators in #Poland don't require them to allow customers to use their own #CPE without pain?

    Cuz I'd take some media converter and chug an SFP(+) module into that for GPON...

    But yeah, a lot of ISPs just want to upsell users their overpriced gear as a forced add-on package, and it really sucks!

    malanalysis, to infosec

    Reminder that if you are ever looking for #CPE for an #infosec or #dfir cert, the free Incident Command Training from FEMA (NIMS) is almost always applicable for CPEs since digital incident response still counts.
