Read BROTHERSONG by TJ Klune if you live complicated family dynamics, the color pink, trauma narratives, heartbeats, tiny cabins in the woods, lonely road trips, ghosts, finding your place in the world, deep-seated guilt, repetition, community support, queer werewolves & breaking cycles.

Has anyone read this one? I loved Orwell's classic and will have to bump this up on my tbr list.

“Newman hasn’t proved herself a worthy successor to Orwell; she’s outclassed him, both in knowledge of human nature and in character development. Julia should be the new required text on those high-school curricula, a stunning look into what happens when a person of strength faces the worst in humanity, as well as a perfect specimen of derivative art that, in standing on another’s shoulders, can reach a higher plane.” — Los Angeles Times

I avoided reading #stephenking for a long time because I avoid horror. Then I read The Dark Tower years ago. It changed everything!

I've now read about 10 of his books -- none of them have been "horror," and I LOVE them. I'm reading 11/22/63 now. Just finished Fairy Tale. Hearts in Atlantis was one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Later this year I want to tackle Insomnia and The Stand.

What is your experience with King? #reading #bookrecommendations

Books with playlists. 🎧🎶🎵

I read a book over the weekend called The Mixtape by Brittainy C. Cherry. It was an awesome book. There were a lot of song references, and I did a search to find that the songs had been put in a spotify playlist. I've always loved the idea of books that have playlists, and now I'm looking for books that do this. Any recommendations? I've also started listening to lo-fi music while reading and doing computer stuff. Any spotify playlist recommendations for music to read to would be awesome! @bookstodon @romancelandia

Read YOUR DRIVER IS WAITING by Priya Guns if you love children of immigrants, rideshare apps, grief narratives, queer lust, organizing spaces, protests, the crushing weight of capitalism, getting swole, chocolate almonds, white girl tears, incendiary emotions, Michael Douglas & overpriced coffee.

Saptarshi - The Seven Supreme Sages

I personally found two stories very timely

  • how vashista's son - Shakthi's rage killed himself and his brothers
  • how even great beings from sages to scientists like Strauss in Oppenheimer movie and me suffer from getting petty and bitter over what seems like simple things. Everyone has giant egos but we want to believe that we are this forgiving loving angel.

Until the very end I thought she was making a bad decision but wow! She believed in herself when nobody did. She believed in herself even when her own family and close circle didn't. It is great if one is lucky and blessed enough to have a little love and encouragement throughout their life. This story is an example that even if it is only a fleeting moment that you get a little love and encouragement it can give you strength for a very long time.

For my 2023 book review, I made a Streamlit app with Python to take in data from my Goodreads account. It includes the following:

💠 hover data to provide more clarity on certain visuals
💠 a word cloud that extracts themes from books I'm interested in.
💠 customizations with layout, colors, animations, favicon
💠 csv upload of your own Goodreads data export

Check out the app
