Henry Markram, of spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) fame and infamous for the Human Brain Project (HBP), just got a US patent for "Constructing and operating an artificial recurrent neural network": https://patents.google.com/patent/US20230019839A1/en
How is that not something thousands of undergrads are doing with PyTorch every week?
The goal, says the patent text, is for <<methods and processes for constructing and operating a recurrent artificial neural network that acts as a “neurosynaptic computer”>> – which seems patentable, but not the overreach that is patenting the construction and operation of an RNN, which is, instead, ludicrous.
Seems likely that the legal office in Markram's research institution did an overreach and got away with it. Good luck enforcing this patent though: Markram did not invent RNNs.
By and large, after many, many years of dreams during sleep, I have come to the conclusion that they are probably just artifacts from neural management functions (sorting, retrieval, merging and storing, garbage collection, etc.), and have no major significance in and of themselves.
Artificial neural networks connect disparate bits of information that could be plausibly connected, which we view as a hallucination.
While we’re dreaming, our organic neural network connects disparate bits of information which could be plausibly connected, but are not necessary or helpful, so it flushes them out via dreams, as sleeping hallucinations.
#FerretDB 1.0 has been announced
Ferret is a proxy that sits between your #mongodb drivers & a #postgres db converting mongo queries into postgres SQL and using PG for the persistence.
I am finding myself at a complete loss as to any practical reason why someone would want to use this. The ONLY case i can make for it is that it satisfies people who are zealous about open source licenses and aren't happy with Mongo's.
@masukomi
Totally agree ... bad choice for anything new.
4. I had no idea. Thank you!
4a. Wonder how the atlas vector performance numbers stack up. PG's are at the bottom of the ranking for vectors: https://ann-benchmarks.com/
4c Wonder about GIS performance, imagine it's comparable to pg since it's mature technology #ANN#VectorSearch#VectorDB
