This beautiful quote from Alan Moore squeezes a whole affective and intellectual meditation on memory, history, preservation and loss into two sentences.

Reminded of a certain war criminal's (HK) demise while watching the motion-comic version of #Watchmen, although it's shocking how long it's taken for that to be true.

#AlanMoore Alan Moore, transformer of #comics, legendary Swamp Thing writer, creator of V for Vendetta, Watchmen, From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and much more besides, turns 70 today. Many happy returns!

(Moore is not on the internet, so I’m just shouting this into the void, but he supposedly has an assistant who is and can bring him “pornography, cute pictures of cats and abusive messages from people,” so you never know.)

Remember, remember, the 5th of November,

Gunpowder, treason and plot.

In the past twenty years or so this poem has gotten connected to and celebrated in the masterpiece V FOR VENDETTA written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. It truly is one of the greatest graphic novels ever created.

If you've never read the book or have only seen the very good film version I highly recommend it. It is brilliant.

The heart of this collection is an excoriating and hilarious satirical novella about the post-war American comics industry, but my favourite was ‘Hypothetical Lizard’, a stunningly beautiful queer secondary-world fantasy.
