Three years ago, Cédric Scherer co-created the first #30DayChartChallenge — and it took off in a big way! This year he set himself two extra, personal challenges: to create only charts about The Simpsons, using only Datawrapper.
For Day 11 of the 2024 #30DayChartChallenge I did more of a technical submission in that it shows how to make a 📊— incl. a custom annotation — responsive based on media queries.
This example initially downsizes the font at one breakpoint, then switches to vertical bars at smallest breakpoint.
on Day 1 I showed the GDP of countries by continent. While this already showed that Europe was leading, I felt it did not fully represent just how unequal the GDP is across the continent - also given that the continents have different number of counties.
In the makeover I tried to show the inequality better, by showing ALL COUNTRIES.
For day 10 of the #30DayChartChallenge (distribution/physical) we look at the historical, present, and projected distributions of cargo by travel mode via an interactive #observable notebook that lets you explore each cargo type.
For Day 12, I snagged the metadata for all the Reuters Graphics team stories and did a bit of an homage to the team, using their fonts and style colors. Grab the data as there's lots more to poke at!
Nothing fancy for the late entry to day 14 of the #30DayChartChallenge. Just a basic Season/Episode ratings #Observable Plot heatmap for selected TV shows from IMDB's catalog.
Drop #442 (2024-04-12): Moreutils; Rats in Realtime
The Friday edition of The Drop features moreutils, a collection of Unix utilities designed to enhance the standard toolset, and Realtime, a platform providing live data visualizations and reports across various topics, including NYC 🐀 sightings. Could be a great source for folks participating in the #30DayChartChallenge.
For day 13 of the #30DayChartChallenge (relationships/family) we use #Observable and #D3 to explore the malware families used by threat actors, and let you tap into them to go to the entries on Malpedia.
Absolutely feeling FOMO about the #30daychartchallenge. But loving all the cool visuals! I can’t wait till things are quiet enough again where I can actually do meetups, do #tidytuesdays, and can just make art and learn new things just because. Maybe next year will be the year 🤞🏾😮💨
I'm rly backlogged on the #30DayChartChallenge b/c I got nerdswiped trying to make a new #Observable Plot mark for HTML styled text…and it's nearly working!
For day 7 ("hazards") of the #30DayChartChallenge we use #DuckDB to read in and wrangle the U.S. mass shootings Google Sheet data curated by Mother Jones to look at the distribution of the number of fatalaties per-incident from 1982-2023.
For day 8 of the 2024 #30DayChartChallenge (distribution / circular) we look at the historical make-up of the U.S. Congress (starting with the 32nd) with animated parliament plots in #Observable (#RStats data wrangling code included in the notebook).
For day 5 of the #30DayChartChallenge (diverging) this #Observable notebook looks at 2023 U.S. state migration inbound/outbound flows through two different lenses.
The notebook has #RStats data wrangling code, too.
