We got to see a little troop of javelinas wandering around our neighbor's place! 🌵 🌵 💞 💞

@amyfou Oh, real ones! 😉 I only know peccaries from the „Horizon: Forbidden West“ open world game on my PS5. Are these as dangerous as European wild boars? They seem to look a little smaller.

@Linkshaender I don't know enough about EWBs to be sure, but I'd guess that our peccaries are, in fact, smaller and less dangerous.

These kids are a hazard if you scare 'em, which is pretty easy to do by accident. They're probably the most dangerous large mammals in the area fwiw.

But more bumbling than aggressive? Maybe?

What do you have to do to get a EWB to attack you? Call him 'ungraceful'?

@amyfou If it’s a sow with piglets, looking is enough to let them go ballistic. Male boars might not object to looking if you keep several hundred feet of distance. 😆 A male boar can reach a shoulder height of 3ft 8" and weigh about 400lbs! Wolves? Nice doggos. A group of wild boars, that’s something to fear. 😎

@Linkshaender 😱 🏃‍♀️ 👀 🐖 🐖 🐖 🐖 🐖 !

"An adult javelina can reach a weight of fifty-five pounds, stand eighteen to twenty inches tall at the shoulder." <-- the internet says

So one of your boars =~ 8 of our javvies? Plus ours are very fuzzy with their wiry wiry coat.

Finally a thing that's scarier at your house than it's analog is at ours!

@amyfou When we lived in a small village at the time our daughter was born, the landlady (farmer for all of her life) warned us not to go walking in or near the corn fields (your corn, maize) because the wild boars were plowing thru the fields for a snack.

@amyfou I turn around and go the other way when I see them. IMO, they're more dangerous than coyotes. Shudder

@Axomamma I definitely agree that they're a lot more dangerous than coyotes - these were far enough away and we were already heading in the other direction, so it wasn't too scary. We couldn't even smell them!

We did watch very carefully the rest of the way home.
