ai6yr,

VCStar: RSV makes early appearance again in Ventura County; flu emerges too... " Levels of the coronavirus remain low, but its presence was verified in an email last week from an urgent care physician asked to assess winter viruses. “I’m currently out for COVID,” the doctor said." #VenturaCounty #flu #RSV #covid19

ai6yr,

"Flu levels are low but are increasing across the state. In Ventura County, Levin said a person died of the virus in November but offered no details because of privacy laws." #flu

ai6yr,

Amazingly, Ventura County still is publishing COVID surveillance data. They mention flu killing oneperson this season, but they totally ignore the 4 new deaths from COVID-19 reported by the health department for the week 🙄 #covid19 https://vchca.org/covid-19

4 new deaths reported from Ventura County California on November 7, 2023

ai6yr,

Just for your morbid enjoyment... Let's see how many people have died in 2023 in Ventura County (officially) of COVID19... 1649 total deaths (for the pandemic) as of January 1st, 2023. 1731 as of this November update... meaning 82 people have died of COVID19 since the beginning of the year. That's a lot more than 1 dying of influenza. But let's just pretend it doesn't exist anymore. https://vchca.org/covid-19 #covid19 #VenturaCounty

@ai6yr #UCBerkeley has a COVID dashboard of reported cases & potential exposures (i.e., which buildings did those cases spend time in) in the last 14-day rolling period & it's down to 5 and 7, respectively. They admit that with rapid home testing they're undercounting but the campus has no provision for "tested positive? sick? report it here" and two professors in just my department are regularly borrowing videoconferencing equipment for use with sick students. There must be hundreds altogether.

ai6yr,

@jmccyoung CSUCI, where I teach, shows places where there have been reported positives... I regularly get notices that students have been excused from class, and are NOT allowed back for X days (because of positivity)--those are just the students so sick to actually get tested, of course.

Total case counts for COVID, showing in 2023, 143 students, 55 employees, 1 external community member positive, compared with 2022 with 200 students, 121 employees, 15 external community members.
