harriettmb,

16 & 17 y/o are the ones most affected by political decisions made by people like this councillor. They are old enough to raise a baby, get married, learn to drive, join the army, be held criminally responsible…. They are old enough to vote. @irelandpolitics @ukpolitics

Infrapink,

@harriettmb @irelandpolitics @ukpolitics Once upon a time, you couldn't vote until you were 21. I strongly suspect that people said much the same things back when the voting age was lowered to 18.

harriettmb,

@ukpolitics @Infrapink @irelandpolitics Indeed they did, and there’s a stupid person in the article complaining they will want it lowered to 14 next. 🙄

GeofCox,

@harriettmb @ukpolitics @Infrapink @irelandpolitics

I feel quite neutral on the question of whether the voting age should be 16 or 18 - but I think this councilor puts forward a powerful argument for 16, because whet we need in politics is much more 'youthful idealism'.

As to people being exploited, he's in no position to judge, as his allegiance to the DUP is proof enough of his own naivety.

Steveb,

@harriettmb @irelandpolitics @ukpolitics

I mean, if you'd asked the question... Which party opposes 16/17 year olds getting to vote?

We'd all know for a fact it was the fucking DUP.
