This is big! Embedded videos/gifs and switching users when commenting to not lose the post because of the feed refresh are a couple of features I’ve been waiting for. Thanks for the updates as always!
Yup, but still a great improvement from opening an in-app browser. Definitely going the right direction and I’m looking forward to fully embedded videos soon. Thanks!
The latest version seems to be having trouble loading anything for me. I’m on an iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17.4.1.
Edit: as more info, it doesn’t seem to want to load Subscriptions, Local Posts, or All feeds. It does load communities if I click through from the drawer or Search.
Edit 2: I tried deleting the app and reinstalling. It worked initially, but then stopped working when I imported my settings. At some other time I can try deleting and then manually re-doing all of my settings.
Edit 3: Ok. I deleted and reinstalled again. And then I slowly started adjusting settings, checking whether the app was still working along the way. It seems to be the “Show Full Image Height” that breaks the app for me. I toggled it a few times. When it’s off, the feeds load fine. When it’s on, feeds just give me a spinning circle of death. I’ve typically had that setting on, but will leave off for now.
Edit 4: Upon further testing, that setting may or may not be the culprit… seems to be working alright after turning it back on again.
It says it’s built with Flutter. I follow the link to learn about Flutter. It appears to be a web page that hangs due to tracking garbage that is blocked by my adblockers. I fire up the non-blocked browser that I use when I really want to see such content (I usually just close the browser tab) and it says that Flutter is made by Google. Oh, now it makes sense.
Hey. I believe I have notifications turned off. After updating via testflight, the app just hangs on the logo splash when opening it. I tried restarting my phone and it still gets stuck. I’m on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running IOS 17.3.1.
Just an update on this, the issue has been found and I’m working on a quick hotfix for this issue. If you’d like to track the issue, check it out here: github.com/thunder-app/thunder/issues/1123
Could you create a new issue on GitHub for this? This feature is highly experimental and may not work on all devices depending on how the OS handles background tasks!
If possible, list out as many details as you can (e.g., OS, battery-saving settings for Thunder, etc.)
Also, take a look through dontkillmyapp.com and apply those settings to Thunder to see if this helps!
I believe there’s a delay in receiving notifications since it performs a background fetch every ~15 minutes.
This is mainly because extra Android permissions are needed to increase the frequency of background tasks (and this frequency also reduce battery consumption in the background)
Changing font colours is not available on Thunder. However, feel free to create a feature request on our GitHub providing some more details on this and we can take a look at it.
