This is big! Embedded videos/gifs and switching users when commenting to not lose the post because of the feed refresh are a couple of features I’ve been waiting for. Thanks for the updates as always!

darklightxi,

Thanks! Embedded videos are still not fully here yet (as videos currently open up in a new page), but this is a step towards that direction!

scytale,

Yup, but still a great improvement from opening an in-app browser. Definitely going the right direction and I’m looking forward to fully embedded videos soon. Thanks!

Not sure which change is it, but I noticed posts load much faster now. Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the hot fix. 0.3.0-3 is working great.

The latest version seems to be having trouble loading anything for me. I’m on an iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17.4.1.

Edit: as more info, it doesn’t seem to want to load Subscriptions, Local Posts, or All feeds. It does load communities if I click through from the drawer or Search.

Edit 2: I tried deleting the app and reinstalling. It worked initially, but then stopped working when I imported my settings. At some other time I can try deleting and then manually re-doing all of my settings.

Edit 3: Ok. I deleted and reinstalled again. And then I slowly started adjusting settings, checking whether the app was still working along the way. It seems to be the “Show Full Image Height” that breaks the app for me. I toggled it a few times. When it’s off, the feeds load fine. When it’s on, feeds just give me a spinning circle of death. I’ve typically had that setting on, but will leave off for now.

Edit 4: Upon further testing, that setting may or may not be the culprit… seems to be working alright after turning it back on again.

The modlog looks great!

Edit: actually, one comment. Some of the text gets bumped off the edge in certain situations. See image.

It says it’s built with Flutter. I follow the link to learn about Flutter. It appears to be a web page that hangs due to tracking garbage that is blocked by my adblockers. I fire up the non-blocked browser that I use when I really want to see such content (I usually just close the browser tab) and it says that Flutter is made by Google. Oh, now it makes sense.

Anyone else get the app hanging on the logo?

darklightxi,

Hey! Can you provide some more details on your issue? For example, do you have local notifications turned on?

scytale,

Hey. I believe I have notifications turned off. After updating via testflight, the app just hangs on the logo splash when opening it. I tried restarting my phone and it still gets stuck. I’m on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running IOS 17.3.1.

darklightxi,

Hmm, that’s weird. I’m using iOS 17.3.1 and have no issues at the moment.

Do you have your Thunder settings exported? It could be an issue with conflicting Thunder settings from the update.

scytale,

Unfortunately I do not have my settings exported, so I don’t really have anything to work with. Do you think I should re-install?

darklightxi,

Just an update on this, the issue has been found and I’m working on a quick hotfix for this issue. If you’d like to track the issue, check it out here: github.com/thunder-app/thunder/issues/1123

scytale,

That was fast! Thanks for looking into it. I haven’t had the chance to re-install yet, so I might just wait for the hotfix.

darklightxi,

A hotfix should now be available on TestFlight! Let me know if that version works

scytale,

It works now! Glad I didn’t re-install yet. I’ll definitely export my settings now. Thanks!

darklightxi,

If it’s not too much of a hassle, try reinstalling and see if that fixes the issue! Thanks!

I am glad for the experimental notification support. Now I’ve just got to get a reply on something.

Hellmo_Luciferrari,

I too can’t wait to test this feature!

orangeNgreen,
@orangeNgreen@lemmy.world avatar

Testing… 1… 2… 3.

Hellmo_Luciferrari,

Luckily got the notification, thank you!

shortwavesurfer,

Well, the first time definitely did not work for me, as I am just now seeing this, and I had to open the app myself. So, so far, not so good. LOL.

darklightxi,

Could you create a new issue on GitHub for this? This feature is highly experimental and may not work on all devices depending on how the OS handles background tasks!

If possible, list out as many details as you can (e.g., OS, battery-saving settings for Thunder, etc.)

Also, take a look through dontkillmyapp.com and apply those settings to Thunder to see if this helps!

shortwavesurfer,

It did actually work, but I fell asleep, so I have no idea when it worked.

darklightxi,

I believe there’s a delay in receiving notifications since it performs a background fetch every ~15 minutes.

This is mainly because extra Android permissions are needed to increase the frequency of background tasks (and this frequency also reduce battery consumption in the background)

shortwavesurfer,

Yep, it appears to be working now. However, I do notice a delay when I tap on a notification to open the app. It takes a little bit to load.

MedicPigBabySaver, (edited ) in [Pre-release] v0.2.9-1

I just added to my app list to trial.

Is there an option to change font colors?

I love that feature on: Connect

I don’t see that option in your settings.

darklightxi,

Hi there, thanks for trying out Thunder!

Is there an option to change font colors?

Changing font colours is not available on Thunder. However, feel free to create a feature request on our GitHub providing some more details on this and we can take a look at it.
