Trying to get all of the website access that I need before the government shuts down so that I can continue to work on my essential project of certifying spacecraft to carry humans after the government shuts down. 🤦‍♀️

It’s fine. Really. It’s all fine.

I think I must have not been clear here. Thank you those who offered help, but when I said “access”, I meant that I don’t have it yet. I wasn’t able to apply for it until today because reasons.

It has to go through a few folks, & if someone in the chain is out or procrastinates, that could cause delays. If I don’t get the approval by Sunday, that could be it.

There are workarounds of course, coworkers could send me what I need, but I want to get familiar w the setup for myself. That’s all :)

I got my access today, woo hoo! I also learned that I now may not actually be essential (it keeps changing), so I was worrying for nothing, lol. Still good to have that process over with :)

SaxMike71,

@absolutspacegrl I was thinking of you recently and wondering if you’d be affected.

@SaxMike71 They keep going back and forth as to whether or not the type of contract that my project is on will be considered essential or not.

@absolutspacegrl I feel you. As a contractor employee, I’ll be able to keep working as long as they don’t turn off the VPNs or lock us out of the code repos. If they come for my gov’t owned laptop, though, I’m hosed.

@absolutspacegrl there's an extension called Monolith of Web that allows you to backup a website using the Rust tool Monolith. You'll have to go through each article and click the extension to save them all one by one, but it's a way to get them available locally offline for you.

absolutspacegrl,
@absolutspacegrl@mastodon.social avatar

@averyminya can’t do that, some of it is sensitive.

@absolutspacegrl this strikes me as a sorta interesting crunch-time engineering lift - like, how quickly can you create your own version of archive.ph and aim it at all the docs/sites/data/etc you know you'll need that may evaporate for a while

absolutspacegrl,
@absolutspacegrl@mastodon.social avatar

@Viss I want to download any requirements type docs that I can pertaining to this particular project (I do that already, but now I have a self-imposed deadline) just in case anything happens to the site & IT folks can’t get to it or whatever else. That shouldn’t happen, I don’t think, but I’ve never worked during one of these so I guess I’ll find out!

@absolutspacegrl i wonder if i could help. i wouldnt wanna get you in trouble - i know some stuff about scanning, havesting, scraping, screenshotting, parsing etc

absolutspacegrl,
@absolutspacegrl@mastodon.social avatar

@Viss I do appreciate it, believe me I do and thank you. But honestly I don’t think I would be allowed to do my of that. Saving them is usually okay, and again I have always done that anyway because these different project sites always go down for maintenance at one time or another when you need something. So I like having the backup. Or maybe the internet is just bad. Or maybe the VPN is having issues when I’m WFH. You get the drift.
