People who moved to the UK from somewhere else: is Argos weird, or is it charming?

@christianp To me it was ... unexpected. But then it was logical, though still a bit unusual.

It's certainly not charming, but never tipped over into weird.

@ColinTheMathmo @christianp I think it's lost some of its weirdness in the last decade.
I don't think many people remember filling in a little slip of paper, queuing up for ages to get to the till, only to be told they were out of stock.

I wrote to Argos in the early 90s suggesting that they put a little stock checker computer on the tables with the catalogues. About 6 months later they appeared. Never got a thank you.

@LittleFrank yeah, it's not as idiosyncratic as it was.

This question was prompted by me going into Sainsbury's to pick up a thing from the Argos counter. To someone who doesn't know the system, it'd be odd to see people walking up to this counter and being given all sorts of stuff.

@christianp in NL there was once a similar shop, Kijkshop (long gone). So no, for me it looks meaningful.
