@Mrfunkedude I think there might be some truth to this, but I know a lot of people whose music listening habits stopped at around the age of 17 for some perfectly banal reasons.
I love listening to new music. I also like to go back to the classics I grew up with too, but there's joy in discovering new things that artists are coming out with in 2024.
Whenever someone says, "they don't make songs like they used to" I feel bad because they clearly aren't listening. It's a preconception filter.
I still listen to some current music (have trouble with current crop of country music), and things I grew up on.
Now, I find myself hearing and understanding far more nuances. Sometimes that’s good, and sometimes that makes me realize how much the world has changed since.
@Mrfunkedude I think you're definitely onto something. I really identify with this, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it was any trauma for me, just a significant, emotionally-charged time of discovery and exploration.
Kind of in the same way that people say "I don't feel my age, I still feel like a kid!", some days I actually do feel my age, and listening to music from certain eras of my life is a way to re-capture and remind myself of the different pieces that have gone into making me who I am today.
