I’ve read a little about the fall of the Bronze Age civilizations at the east end of the Mediterranean. Literally the beginning of history—these folks invented writing. Some of them we can read! and some we can’t, yet. The oligarchs of the day were writing back & forth to each other about the news of the day, and then they stopped. Not clear why, except for cryptic tales of The Sea People. No one knows who they were. Probably something like that. Same old, etc.

Also, too, writing was invented around the same time, in present day China and in Central and South America. In Africa too but I forget where. It was after Egyptians thought up their hieroglyphs, I think. Cuneiform scripts were invented for accounting and inventory control. And tax accounting. About 5 or 6 hundred years later poems and stories appeared.
