It's crazy when I see my co-workers who can't touch-type. Like, did I also used to be that slow?

Learning to touch-type is probably one of the best choices I've ever made. It only took like two weeks to learn (plus about a month to get used to it).

It's also just so fun and satisfying. Clickity-clackity :meowbongo:

@dopey_kun @jussi I work in tech and I get so confused when I notice a colleague who I’ve been working with for years can’t touch type. Like, I get that it’s a skill but I just imagine you’d pick it up over the years if you get paid 8 hours a day to sit in front of a computer. 🫥

@dopey_kun posts like this remind me that not everyone is a proficient typist and that is such a foreign concept to my personal experience. I started playing Mario Teaches Typing when I was no older than 11yo back in the 90s, and when my classmates were in typing class I was given a newspaper to transcribe instead as practice.

I have no meaningful memories of struggling to type. My wife is still flabbergasted when I take apart, clean, and put back all the keys on my keyboard without any kind of reference image.

I definitely take it for granted and forget to give others the mental space to type things that would be a breeze for me.

@neatchee I had those old typing games too, but I never stuck with them. I didn't really do much typing before I started coding. I decided to finally learn touch-typing around 2 years ago, and it's really one of the most valuable skills I've learned.

Honestly, watching others type often feels like walking behind someone slow :btr_bocchi_trash_lurk:

Still don't know my way aroung taking apart keyboards, though. We did that once in high school, and I haven't done it again since.

@dopey_kun yyyeeeah I will admit to kicking someone out of a chair so I could do the typing on a few occasions :anyapeek:

I typically clean my gaming PC components 2-3 times a year. That's the only reason I take my keyboard apart heh

@neatchee Same :Hehe:

I don't eat and type, but a lot of dust still gets under the keycaps :frierendisappointed1:

@rgbunny fun fact, dust around your home is something like 60%+ human skin! Can't stop the molting :3
