It would disconnect while syncing, corrupting the drive. Sometimes it would also disconnect when I picked it up. I have replaced the HDD with a flash drive adapter, and so my suspicion is that it was too loose in there. So I placed just a tiny bit of white tack between the flash adapter and the metal frame, and… that seems to have fixed it! It's synced over 300 songs with no issue.
