You've gotta love this Labour idea of renationalising the railways. Sounds good, doesn't it? Except, they won't own the tracks as they belong to Network Rail. They won't own the rolling stock; they'll need to be leased. So they'll only own the right to sell tickets. 🤦♂️
@dick_turpin Network Rail is already part of the Dept of Transport; so I think the tracks are already nationalised. The rolling stock is hmm, I think the operating companies lease that, but I'm not clear who from.
@dick_turpin They could get rid of some of the leasing; with the operating companies at the moment having short contracts, it doesn't make sense for them to buy trains; if the operating companies were nationalised it wouldn't be needed.
