Was helping a friend with some computer thing today and noticed Brave now has a nice big ad for turbo tax slapped on its start page along with that controversial VPN move they made a whiles back...Advised them its probably time to start moving to @Vivaldi who's business model doesnt require shoving ads in your face or sneaky VPN services into your OS.

Brave was such a cool idea I used to think, but as with pretty much every half decent idea that makes use of "crypto" it went to shit real fast.

nathan,

You don't like ads plastered all over?

don't look at Vivaldi's start page then ...

It's like a who's who of the shittiest companies on the planet.

Personally I love looking at vivaldi's start page, because as I think you already knew before posting, its completely customizable.

The ad i saw on brave was literally part of the background and not something like a tile you could remove.

My larger point is that brave has been going down hill with their attempts to make money, first it's a VPN, then ads from tubo tax, now they're shoving an AI into it. Vivaldi on the other hand has been constantly improving.

But hey use whatever browser works for you, I just like how customizable Vivaldi is out of the box, if i wanted to have the same kind of setup with firefox or anything else i'd need a bunch of extra extensions and custom user configs, which is what i used to do till i found out about vivaldi.

@sapient @nathan @Vivaldi I cut brave out of my diet a long time ago due to it nagging me for notification access, but back then you could hit the toggle in the settings to turn off sponsored backgrounds. None of them are safe except the gradient and plain color options.

mndl27,

@sapient what are the main things that you like about vivalidi ??@nathan @Vivaldi

Instead of keeping tabs open or needing an extra plugin/service Vivaldi has a "reading list" option I can use that saves links for me to read later without any third party service like pocket.

There is a completely customizable sidebar, a few of the defaults its has are quick notes and translations, but you can also add any web page.

And overall its just had a general trend of actually quality new features, even ones i don't use i still think are neat.
